Govt Unveils IFFI 2024 ‘Young Filmmakers – The Future Is Now’ Theme

New Delhi, November 11: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday unveiled the theme of the International Film Festival of India 2024. The theme of IFFI 2024 is ‘Young Filmmakers – The Future is Now’.

The government said that the IFFI 2024 theme recognizes potential of youth in shaping the future of creativity. Th government also said that IFFI 2024 is a platform for all storytellers and cinephiles to join for the joy of cinema.

“The IFFI is comparable to global film festivals such as Cannes as seen from the overwhelming response received regarding international film submissions,” said Union Minister of State for I&B Ministry L. Murugan. He was speaking at the curtain raiser press conference in the national capital.

A musical journey featuring 150 songs associated with Raj Kapoor and Mohammed Rafi, and 75 songs associated with Tapan Sinha and Akkineni Nageswara Rao, will also be showpiece event at IFFI 2024.

The IFFI 2024 will honour acclaimed Australian Director Philip Noyce with the prestigious Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award. Philip Noyce’s filmography includes iconic films like Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, Salt, The Saint, The Bone Collector and many more.

The IFFI 2024 will also celebrate the centenary of four icons of Indian Cinema. The opening ceremony to have a spectacular performance paying tribute to the lives and achievements of the four cinematic legends through restored works of Raj Kapoor, Tapan Sinha, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and Mohammed Rafi.

The government also said that for Golden Peacock Award 15 feature films (12 International and 3 Indian) have been shortlisted. Best Web Series (OTT) Award has received 46 entries this year. Certificates and a cash prize of ₹10 Lakhs will be given as prize money to the winning series.

The Creative Minds of Tomorrow (CMOT) initiative has seen record-breaking participation with 1,032 entries this year. This program fosters young talent across 13 filmmaking crafts, and for the first time, 100 participants to be selected, offering a unique platform for aspiring filmmakers.

“Preserving the craft of storytelling is more essential than ever as the IFFI 2024 honours and nurtures this timeless art form,” said Festival Director Shekhar Kapur.

The IFFI 2024 will also a new award of Best Indian Debut Director which has been instituted to recognize young filmmaking talent. Also, IFFIesta: Entertainment zone will be be set up where Films, Music, and Culture will converge to enhance youth participation and engagement at IFFI 2024, added the government on Monday.
