Kolkata doctor rape and murder shames humanity

New Delhi, August 14: Doctors across the country are rightly agitating over the rape and murder of a second-year post-graduate medical student in the RK Kar Medical Hospital and College. Parents of the victim have given horrifying accounts of barbarous violence meted out to the 31-year-old student.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wanted to wait until Sunday to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Calcutta High Court ordered the CBI to take up the probe immediately, and the investigative agency has already begun the work on the ground.
West Bengal is helmed by a woman chief minister for the past 23 years. Yet, the accounts of brutality against the women in West Bengal surface on a regular basis.

Undoubtedly, one gathers sense that violence is a norm in West Bengal. Violence against women also comes out as a revealing feature of West Bengal.
The brutality against the medical student in the heart of Kolkata flies in the face of the claims of the Trinamool Congress of sending the maximum number of women to parliament. Claims of the TMC of women empowerment should be a farce.
Banerjee had ousted late Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee from the office of the chief minister after uprooting the 34-year rule of the CPI (MP) in West Bengal. Her war cry against the sickle in the red flag was ‘Ma, Mati, Manush’.

The ‘Ma’ of the deceased medical student is crying before the cameras of the YouTubers. She is giving accounts of the legs of the victim found at 90 degrees. “This can only happen when the pelvis is broken,” said the wailing mother to a YouTuber.
That ‘Ma’ also told YouTubers that the spectacle of the medical student was smashed with blood all around the eyes of the victim. The account sends shivers down the spine.
The accounts of brutality against the medical student should shame the ‘Manush’. Banerjee’s ‘Ma’ and ‘Manush’ are wailing. Blood of innocents is soling the ‘Mati’.

Political thuggery blots the law-and-order administration. Banerjee had promised to uproot the CPI (MP) and its culture of political violence. She had herself been a victim of the political violence in the state.
Yet, Banerjee in the last 23 years has only shown that there is no change in West Bengal. The TMC is the new CPI (M) in West Bengal.
