JD (U) Seeks Employment Data in Congress-ruled States

By TRH News Desk

New Delhi, April 11, 2025: Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar was detained during final day of ‘Palayan Roko, Naukri Do’’ march in Patna. The JD (U) asked the Congress to give employment generation data in the party-ruled states.

Kanhaiya Kumar was detained by Patna police on Friday during the final leg of the padyatra. The march aimed at highlighting unemployment and migration issues in Bihar.

The protest escalated near Rajapur Pul as participants attempted to march towards Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s residence. The police stopped the Congress workers with water cannons and lathi charges.

Local media reported that Kanhaiya Kumar along with other Congress workers was taken into custody. The padyatra began on March 16 from Bhitiharwa.

It traversed multiple districts, including Begusarai, before culminating in Patna. Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had also joined the padyatra in Begusarai.

Addressing the media before his detention, Kumar criticized the state government’s response. “We are not demanding lathicharge or water cannons. We want water to come through our taps,” he said.

The Congress leader emphasized the need for effective implementation of schemes like ‘Nal Jal Yojana’ to ensure basic amenities for the people. He sought to gain attention ahead of the Assembly elections for issues of unemployment and migration. He asserted that the movement will continue until concrete steps are taken by the state government to address these challenges.

The JD (U) in a press conference demanded job data from Congress-ruled states. The ruling party claimed record job creation under the Nitish Kumar government.

The JDU National Spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh launched a sharp critique of the ongoing Congress padyatra. He asked the Congress to first release employment and job creation statistics from its own governments in Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka.

Speaking at a press conference, Singh questioned the credibility of the Congress campaign on unemployment. “Congress should first present the data on how many jobs and employment opportunities have been created in states ruled by its governments,” Singh said.

He contrasted the Congress’s performance with that of Bihar under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, stating that the state had emerged from a period of severe decline during the pre-2005 rule of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. “There were neither jobs nor safety. People were forced to migrate due to lack of opportunity, and violence from extremism and private militias,” he said.

Singh highlighted that under CM Nitish Kumar’s leadership, over 10 lakh government jobs and 28 lakh employment opportunities have already been provided. “Our target by the end of this legislative term is 12 lakh government jobs and 38 lakh employment opportunities,” he declared.

He further emphasized a recent milestone in teacher recruitment. “On March 9, a Sunday, the Chief Minister handed over provisional appointment letters to 51,389 school teachers selected through the BPSC TRE-3 exam — setting a record for single-day job appointments,” Singh noted.

In addition, he spoke about welfare schemes being rolled out on the basis of the caste survey. “Every economically backward family is being supported with ₹2 lakh to encourage small-scale enterprises. It is clear that in the coming years, no youth in Bihar will remain unemployed,” he added.
