Supreme Court harks back to era of judicial activism

New Delhi, September 4:  Abdul Khan is a farm labourer in Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh. Four years ago, his destiny changed for better.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has kept focus of his government on saturation of the welfare schemes. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna is key pivot of welfarism of Modi.

Khan became a beneficiary of welfare push of the Modi government. At an age of 80 years, Khan got a pucca house built for his family.

Like Khan, there are several in the country who now live in pucca houses due to the PM Awas Yojna. Political pundits have concurred that the massive victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections was due to welfare schemes’ deliveries.

But Khan is now homeless again. His house has been demolished. Reports claim that he became a victim of mistaken identity.

Bulldozer justice in a few states has seen local administration rushing with bulldozers. Instance justice against crimes has been bringing electoral windfall gains.

The Supreme Court finally stepped in to work out a policy on the prevalent practise of ‘bulldozer justice’. The judiciary will once again be stepping into the policy making domains of legislature and executive.

Vaibhav Kumar finally stepped out of jail yesterday. The Supreme Court granted him bail in an assault case against the Rajya Sabha MP Swati Malival.

Kumar is a key aide of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He spent over three months in the jail.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K. Kavita also walked out of jail. The Supreme Court once again gave relief to a jailed political leader.

Kavitha spent almost six months in the jail. She is an accused in the Delhi Excise scam.

Earlier, former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Susodia got relief in the liquor scam in the national capital.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh and Sisodia had spent over one year in the Tihar Jail for their alleged involvement in the Delhi Excise Scam.

The Supreme Court also took suo motu cognizance in the RG Kar Medical Hospital rape and murder case. The Cabinet Secretary headed national task force on the direction of the Supreme Court will submit a report on safety mechanical for health care professionals.

The Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi now has gained a reputation of a bulwark against the long arms of the investigate agencies. Jharkhand Chief Minister Heant Soren owes his freedom to Singhvi’s legal acumen. Kejriwal and Sisodia also hail Singhvi.

Now, Singhvi aims to expand his shield across the nation against the “Political use” of the investigative agencies. Having spent years on sidelines in the Congress, Singhvi is the numero uno legal warrior of his party.
