Trump Team Lambasts Judge Boasberg for Blocking Deportations

New Delhi, March 31: US President Donald Trump-owned social media platform Truth Social is up in arms against Columbia District Judge James Emanuel ‘Jeb’ Boasberg. Trump followers seek impeachment of Judge Boasberg.

Judge Boasberg was born in 1963 in San Francisco in California. “He is a distinguished American jurist serving as the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia since March 2023,” reads a profile of Boasberg by Federal Judicial Centre.
Legal luminaries call Judge Boasberg impartial. But Trump followers are attacking Judge Boasberg with insinuations which include accusations against his daughter for working for groups for immigrants. They accuse his daughter of drawing income from groups working for immigrants.
The US has deported hundreds of illegal immigrants in batches to countries such as India, Columbia, Venezuela, and others. Judge Boasberg blocked Trump bid to ship illegal immigrants to Venezuela.
DC Court in a profile of beleaguered Judge Boasberg said that his academic journey began at Yale University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1985. “He furthered his studies at St. Peter’s College, Oxford, obtaining a Master of Studies in Modern European History in 1986,” read the profile by DC Court.
Boasberg returned to Yale Law School to earn his Juris Doctor in 1990. Boasberg clerked for Judge Dorothy W. Nelson of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 1990 to 1991.
“He then practiced law in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., before serving as an Assistant US Attorney for the District of Columbia from 1996 to 2002, focusing on homicide cases,” added Federal Judicial Centre in a note on Boasberg.
It further stated that “President George W. Bush in 2002 appointed Boasberg as an Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia”. He held the position until 2011.
“President Barack Obama then nominated him to the US District Court for the District of Columbia, where he was confirmed by the Senate in March 2011,” added Federal Judicial Centre.
Trump has often accused Boasberg for being a “Leftist Judge”. The US President accuses Boasberg of blocking the execution of the people’s mandate in the November elections.
Trump in a series of posts on his social media platform Truth Social said that the “illegal aliens blocked from deportations by Judges such as Boasberg indulge in crimes, including homicide and others”. Boasberg presided over several high-profile cases. He also dealt with the case related to the Trump administration and the January 6 Capitol attack.
Boasberg gained limelight this month for temporarily blocking the deportation of Venezuelan migrants under the ‘Alien Enemies Act’. He is now facing demands for impeachment from Trump followers.
Ballopedia in a report on Boasberg said that he also “served on the United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court from 2014 to 2021, acting as its presiding judge from 2020 to 2021”.
Boasberg is known for his impartiality and commitment to upholding the rule of law. He is also credited for dealing effectively with complex legal challenges.
