Joe Biden firms up resolve to not quit contest against Donald Trump

By Manish Anand

New Delhi, July 4: Incumbent US President Joe Biden is not quitting the presidential poll race. Biden told Democratic Governors that he would stay put till end against Republican challenger Donald Trump.

“I heard three words from the President tonight — he’s all in. And so am I,” said Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California.

A White House spokesperson also asserted that Biden is “certainly not pulling out”. Wes Moore, Maryland Governor, too underlined that Biden’s allies asked him to stay put in the presidential poll in November this year.

The contrarian assertions of the Democrat functionaries came amid rising stock of Biden’s deputy, Kamala Harris. The incumbent US Vice President is being bet by a rising number of commentators to step in for Biden.

“Biden has had our back. Now it’s time to have his,” Newsom posted on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

Moore also endorsed the views of Newsom, saying that “Democratic Governors offered their continued support for US President Joe Biden”.

The Democratic Governors held a meeting with Biden to discuss the fallout from his debate with Trump last week. The American media houses rushed after the conclusion of the debate with advocacy that Biden should quit the race.

“We said that we would stand with him,” Moore added. He also stated that “there is no way he is dropping out”. He quoted Biden, saying “he is in this race to the end”.

Biden also told Politico that he is running for the poll, while “no one is pushing” him out. “I’m not leaving. I’m in this race to the end and we’re going to win,” Biden was quoted by Politico.

The television broadcasters still continue to persuade the Democrats to replace Biden against Trump. “If the Democrats stick with Biden, they will regret it. They will lose,” posted television presenter Bill Meher on X.

Earlier, one of the biggest donors of the Democrats was claimed to have been mulling to persuade the family members of Biden for a reconsideration of the candidacy. But Biden got strong support from former US President Barack Obama.

Latching on the narrative that Trump employed falsehood as his weapon in the debate with Biden, the sympathisers of the incumbent President are rallying support for him.

“This nation was founded on the principle that there are no kings in America, but Trump’s Supreme Court has paved the way for him to be one. We must stop him,” Biden posted on X late evening on Wednesday after the meeting with the Governors.

The Democrats are now stoking the narrative that Trump will usher in an authoritarian regime if he is elected as the next President of the US.
