New Delhi, October 10, 2025 — Two state-of-the-art international airports — Jewar Airport in Greater Noida and the Navi Mumbai International Airport — are set to redefine India’s aviation and tourism landscape as they near completion and prepare to begin commercial operations.
Aligned closely with the Ministry of Tourism, both projects are part of a strategic initiative to position these airports as major international tourism hubs, designed to generate substantial revenue from both domestic and global travelers.
According to senior government officials, the airports will feature seamless facilitation for international tourists, advanced connectivity infrastructure, and expanded cargo-handling capacity to support tourism-related trade — from equipment and hospitality goods to high-value imports.
A Tourism-Centric Vision
The initiative, conceptualized recently under the Modi government’s infrastructure roadmap, seeks to transition India’s next-generation airports into integrated tourism gateways. With this, India’s tourism sector is poised for a major transformation as these airports open new frontiers for global travel.
Both airports are expected to ease congestion at Delhi and Mumbai, two of the busiest aviation hubs in the world, while offering smoother travel routes to destinations across northern and western India.
“Jewar and Navi Mumbai airports will play a vital role in boosting tourism, offering state-of-the-art facilities and global-standard services for travelers,” said a senior official involved in the project.
Navi Mumbai: Gateway to the Western Coast
The Navi Mumbai International Airport, led by the Adani Group, is among Maharashtra’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. Scheduled for completion in 2025, it is expected to handle 20 million passengers annually in its first phase, substantially easing the load on Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
Strategically located, the airport will open up the western coastline, home to Konkan beaches, historical forts, hill stations, and eco-tourism destinations. It will also provide quick access to Mumbai’s iconic attractions such as the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, and Elephanta Caves, while offering a faster route to Alibaug and the Konkan belt.
Jewar: North India’s New Air Gateway
Meanwhile, the Noida International Airport in Jewar, also slated for completion in 2025, is being developed as a crucial alternative to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which already operates near full capacity.
Situated strategically in Greater Noida, Jewar Airport will serve as a hub for the Delhi-NCR region, linking travelers to Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Northern India’s key tourism circuits. Its proximity to landmarks such as the Taj Mahal (Agra), Golden Temple (Amritsar), and Ranthambore National Park (Rajasthan) makes it a prime gateway for inbound tourists.
Boosting Tourism and Connectivity
Both airports are expected to give a strong push to India’s goal of becoming a global tourism powerhouse by improving air connectivity, reducing travel time, and offering world-class facilities that meet international standards.
By integrating modern aviation with regional tourism circuits, Jewar and Navi Mumbai airports are set to not only decongest Delhi and Mumbai but also expand India’s tourism economy, opening up new routes for international travelers exploring India’s cultural, heritage, and natural attractions.
