However, final approval from the central government is still pending. Also the passenger-less flight trials are expected to commence between November 15 and December 15 this year. The initial plan involves constructing a two-runway airport by 2024, with future expansion to transform it into a six-runway airport spanning 7,200 acres (2,900 hectares).
According to reports, Noida International Airport Ltd (NIAL) CEO Dr Arunvir Singh stated that initial approval has been granted for 25 domestic flights, with plans to increase this number as passenger demand rises. The construction of the terminal building is moving ahead swiftly.
In December this year, Yamuna International Airport, the developer, will apply for an aerodrome license from the DGCA. It is expected that the airport’s development will attract investment and stimulate regional growth.
The Noida Airport is getting an overwhelming number of requests from Airlines regarding parking their aircraft, especially at night. This has encouraged the authorities to increase the number of parking bays to facilitate more aircraft. Due to which, they are adding nine more parking areas to 25 existing bays.

This extension at the Noida Airport will also help in hosting aircraft at the time of crunch at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi. Noida Airport is expected to have at least 50 lakh passengers in the first year of its launch.
NIA CEO Christoph Schnellmann recently stated that the estimated footfall is a very significant landmark to achieve for any big greenfield project nearly half of its capacity in such a timeframe. The Noida airport developers are also expanding the apron position beyond the original plan even before the airport gets operational.
Delhi Airport has a large number of parking bays. However, nearly 70 of them are booked for over 2-3 years now by the IndiGo Airbus A320 fleet due to Pratt & Whitney engines issues and planes of grounded GoAir.
