Mumbai, November 1, 2025 — Academy Award–winning actor Jennifer Lawrence says she’s learned to temper her public political voice, admitting that celebrity activism rarely changes minds and often worsens America’s divisions.

In an appearance on The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast, as reported by Variety, Lawrence reflected on her evolution since she criticized Donald Trump’s 2016 victory in a HuffPost op-ed that declared only “white men feel safe” in his America.

“I don’t really know if I should (speak out),” she told host Lulu Garcia-Navarro, adding: “Election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for. So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart.”

Lawrence said she’s now focused on preserving her artistry rather than polarizing audiences. “I want to protect my craft so you can still get lost in what I’m doing,” she said. She added that “if I can’t say something that’s going to lower the temperature or bring peace, I don’t want to be part of the problem.”

The Die My Love star, currently promoting the film, said she now expresses her political beliefs through her production company’s work, including Bread and Roses, a documentary about women in Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover, and Zurawski v Texas, focused on abortion rights.

Lawrence, who previously admitted she took a career break after the public grew tired of her brash persona, reflected: “As horrified as I am at old interviews, I get it… I was young and awkward. I got found out as this fraud.”

Her new stance marks a quiet pivot — from outspoken Hollywood activist to a self-aware artist choosing to let her work speak louder than her words.
