The annual meeting of the ruling JD (U) in Bihar is taking place in the backdrop of intense speculations that Singh could be replaced as a strategic move on the part of the Bihar chief minister ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Although any such news was denied by the party, the matter got further impetus after the picture of Lalan Singh disappeared from the backdrop of the national council meeting at the party headquarters in Delhi. However, his picture was put up up later following the instructions of the Bihar chief minister, said sources.

Kumar reached the party headquarters in Delhi to attend the national council meeting on Thursday morning. Singh was already present. The party leaders said that the news of removal of Singh from the post of president is being spread by the media, but there is no truth.

A senior JD (U) leader said: “Nitish Kumar is the supreme leader of the party and Singh is also an associate of the chief minister. In such a situation, it will be decided in the national council on Friday whether Singh will remain the president of the JD (U) or Kumar will take the command of the party or give it to someone else.”

Party leaders also said that the meeting has been organized to prepare for the Lok Sabha elections and prepare a strategy. Sources said: “The strategy to strengthen the party will be considered in this meeting. Since today all the leaders could not attend the meeting due to not reaching Delhi on time, a decision will be taken after the party meeting tomorrow.”
