Lucknow, September 23, 2025 —Women power in Uttar Pradesh is steadily becoming the backbone of social progress and the rising rural economy. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s Mission Shakti campaign, women across the state are charting new paths of self-reliance and respect. The remarkable journey of Meera Singh from Budhupur village in Jaunpur district stands as a shining example of this transformation.
“Once struggling with limited means, Meera has today emerged as a progressive fish farmer, creating an identity for herself while inspiring women and youth alike,” said the UP information department in a media statement.
Starting in 2020–21 with just one acre of pond, she has now expanded her enterprise to 25 acres of fish farming, producing 1,400 quintals annually. Her efforts have also created employment for more than 10 people, giving a major boost to the local economy.
“With little knowledge initially, we started fish farming in one acre. Thereafter, with the government’s assistance, we learned about scientific production techniques. Today, we produce 1,400 quintals of fish in 25 acres. We now try and help women to become self-reliant. With the government’s support, I am leading a respectful and safe life,” Meera Singh said.
Her enterprise today yields 1,250 quintals of Pangasius, 60 quintals each of Rohu and Bhakur, and 30 quintals of Mrigal. Supported by the Yogi government’s Blue Revolution and Mission Shakti programs, she received a grant of ₹15 lakh along with scientific training, which helped transform her small-scale venture into a model of rural entrepreneurship.
Beyond economic success, Mission Shakti has also given Meera confidence, safety, and dignity. From learning self-defence to gaining financial independence, she credits the initiative with shaping her empowered journey. With her husband Jainendra Singh by her side, she now supplies fish and seeds to nearby villages and mentors other women to step into the business.
The Yogi government’s Mission Shakti is designed to ensure women’s safety, dignity, and empowerment, while also creating opportunities for financial independence. For women like Meera Singh, this initiative has opened doors not only to a better livelihood but also to leading change in their communities.
“I want every woman to move forward through her hard work,” Meera says with pride, embodying the vision of a self-reliant and safe Uttar Pradesh.
