By Our Special Correspondent

New Delhi, June 1: The Indian National Developmental and Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) on Saturday took stock of the Lok Sabha elections. The meeting was held at the residence of the president of the Congress, Mallikarjuna Kharge.

In the course of the meeting of the Opposition bloc, the Opposition accused that the Union Minister for Home Affairs, Amit Shah, is calling the district magistrates. It may be noted that the district magistrates are the key nodal election officials.

“The outgoing Home Minister (Amit Shah) has been calling up DMs/Collectors. So far, he has spoken to 150 of them,” charged Jairam Ramesh, the communication department chief of the Congress, in a post on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

The Opposition block meeting on Saturday took stock of the preparations for the counting of the votes. The seventh phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections is currently underway for 57 parliamentary constituencies.

“This is blatant and brazen intimidation, showing how desperate the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is…,” asserted Ramesh. The counting of votes will take place on Tuesday, June 4.

“Let it be very clear: the will of the people shall prevail, and on June 4th, Mr. (Narendra) Modi (the prime minister), Mr. Shah, and the BJP will exit, and the INDIA Janbandhan will be victorious,” added Ramesh.

The Congress leader urged upon the election officials to be vigilant and free of pressure. “Officers should not get under any pressure and must uphold the Constitution. They are under watch,” added Ramesh.

The Congress has been sharp in criticism of the Election Commission in the course of the Lok Sabha elections. Kharge had shot off long letters to the Election Commission to demand the data concerning the actual voters’ turnouts in each parliamentary constituency. This issue also reached the Supreme Court.

The Opposition meeting on Saturday dwelt upon coordination among the constituents to stay vigil all through the counting day, as well as the strong rooms ahead of the counting. The Opposition often accuses the BJP of manipulating the post-poll election management.
