JLKM Chief Hogs Media Limelight with Social Media Trends

Ranchi, December 20: Jairam Kumar Mahato is hogging more media limelight than even Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The social media trends show Jairam Kumar Mahato ruling the charts.
Mahato had got registration for his Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) a few weeks before the Assembly elections. In his maiden Assembly election, Jairam Kumar Mahto won from the Dumri constituency in the Giridih district.
Jairam Kumar Mahto emerged from the students’ politics. He claims that the JLKM bagged over 11 lakh votes in the recently-held Assembly elections.
“The people of Jharkhand are looking at JLKM with hope. We are seen as an alternative to the mainstream politics,” Jairam Kumar Mahto told media persons yesterday.
His domination of the social media trends has brought the attention of the national media. Jairam Kumar Mahto finds media trailing him even while he goes for routine personal works. Yesterday, the media found interest in his submitting papers for his PhD thesis at the Vinod Bihari Mahto University in Dhanbad.
Jairam Kumar Mahto hopes to finish his PhD study by 2025 and get the doctorate in 2026. “The people not just in Jharkhand but even at the national level may feel pride that there is an MLA who is studying for doctorate,” Jairam Kumar Mahato told local media persons in Dhanbad on Thursday.
Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) in a report after the Jharkhand elections said that 89 per cent of the new MLAs are ‘crorapati’ with average assets being over ₹3.2 crores. Jairam Kumar Mahto has the lowest asset at just ₹2.20 lakh.
The ADR in its report also said that 28 of the total 81 MLAs in Jharkhand have studied till class VIII. There is one MLA who claims to be just literate per ADR report.
Jairam Kumar Mahto’s pursuit to gain doctorate degree is thus inviting a close media scrutiny. Political observers in Ranchi claim that Jairam Kumar Mahato is emerging as an alternative face in the state politics while established leaders are ageing.
The fifth Jharkhand Assembly has been constituted after the state polls. Most of the established political leaders in Jharkhand have held the centre stage for the last 24 years in the state.
“There is an emergence of an assertive youth aspiration for an alternative political leader in Jharkhand. They see Jairam Kumar Mahtowith hope,” said a senior functionary of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). The JLKM bagged 10.31 lakh votes by contesting on 72 Assembly seats.
