Left Party Alleges Governance Failure, Global Isolation, and “Fascist Subversion” Amidst Monsoon Session of Parliament

By TRH Political Desk

NEW DELHI, July 25, 2025 — In a sharply worded editorial released on the Parliament’s monsoon session, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) launched a sweeping attack on the Modi government, accusing it of national security failures, foreign policy blunders, democratic subversion, and silencing of dissent.

The editorial comes amidst rising political tension over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians lost their lives nearly three months ago. CPI(ML) called the SIR drive a “sinister” effort, expressing fear that it could become a template for disenfranchisement nationwide.

“If the Supreme Court allows the SIR to run its course in Bihar… it will trigger a veritable redesigning of the republic,” the party warned, calling the exercise a potential threat to citizenship rights.

Vice President’s Resignation Raises Questions

CPI(ML) also commented on the sudden resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, calling it “surprising” and hinting at deeper power realignments within the Sangh-BJP establishment. While refraining from speculating, the party suggested that the development may signal internal shifts within the ruling alliance.

“…the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the Vice President post was absolutely sudden and surprising. We will have to wait for subsequent developments to make a sense of the Vice President’s sudden resignation and what it holds for power equations within the Sangh-BJP establishment,” wrote the editorial.

Pahalgam Attack: “No Justice, No Accountability”

On the 90th day since the Pahalgam terror attack, CPI(ML) lashed out at the Modi government for failing to bring the perpetrators to justice. The editorial questioned why neither the Prime Minister nor the Union Home Minister visited Kashmir or responded to calls for a special Parliament session.

The party dismissed Operation Sindoor—presented by the government as a justice campaign for the victims—as a hollow gesture, pointing to unacknowledged military and civilian casualties and an opaque ceasefire deal reportedly brokered through US mediation.

“What does taking responsibility mean without resignation and course correction?” asked the party, following the J&K LG’s acceptance of blame for the security lapse.

Foreign Policy in Crisis: “Total Isolation”

CPI(ML) painted a grim picture of India’s international standing, citing the country’s diplomatic sidelining, especially in contrast to Pakistan’s rising visibility, including its UNSC presidency for July 2025.

The editorial accused the Modi government of “mortgaging national interests” to the US-Israel axis, criticizing India’s silence over the ongoing Gaza genocide and US aggression against Iran.

“India under Modi has abjectly capitulated… refusing to utter any word of condemnation against Israel or express any solidarity with the Palestinian cause,” said the party, adding that India had “abandoned” SAARC, was “distancing itself” from SCO, and “limiting” its role in BRICS.

Striking Workers and Parliament: A Charged Session Ahead

The party linked the public’s anger to the recent July 9 nationwide trade union strike, suggesting it reflects a broader mood of defiance that will echo within Parliament. It condemned Prime Minister Modi’s “18-minute monologue” outside Parliament, calling it a “self-congratulatory spectacle” that cannot drown out public dissent.

The editorial closes with a stark warning: comparing the current moment to the Emergency era of the 1970s, CPI(ML) claimed that what is at stake now is not just elections, but the very structure of Indian democracy. It said: “The disenfranchisement of the average elector and the creation of second-grade citizens reveals the unmistakable spectre of fascist subversion of the Indian polity.”
