Israel Bombs Houthi Military Infrastructure in Fresh Strikes

NEW DELHI, July 7, 2025 – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed a large-scale operation targeting Houthi military infrastructure in Yemen, striking key ports, a power plant, and a hijacked ship used for terrorist activities.
The assault, involving over 50 bombs and missiles across more than 20 strikes, hit the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Issa, and Salif, the Ras Katib power plant, and the “Galaxy Leader” ship, which the IDF claims was used by the Iran-backed Houthis to track vessels and facilitate attacks.
The operation follows a series of Houthi missile and drone attacks on Israel, including a recent ballistic missile strike near Ben Gurion Airport, prompting Israel to act decisively against the Yemen-based rebels. Houthi-run Al Masirah TV described the attacks as “barbaric,” claiming civilian infrastructure, including power stations and fuel facilities, was targeted, causing widespread outages in Hodeidah.
Israeli journalist Ariel Oseran in a post on X quoted senior Houthi official Hezam Al-Assad, saying: “No matter how persistent the Zionist enemy is in its aggression against our country and its targeting of our vital facilities, our people will only grow more steadfast and determined to continue supporting Gaza until the aggression stops.”
Al Mayadeen, a Hezbollah-affiliated outlet, noted that the strikes hit oil reserves and military supplies, underscoring the operation’s scale, with dozens of Israeli aircraft involved, said BBC in a news report.
The Houthis, who control much of northwestern Yemen, have intensified attacks on Israel since October 2023, launching over 400 ballistic missiles and drones in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Their actions, including disruptions to Red Sea shipping, have drawn global attention, with the group sinking two vessels, seizing the “Galaxy Leader,” and killing four crew members since November 2023, said The Jerusalem Post in a report.
The US, which previously conducted extensive airstrikes against the Houthis, had announced a cessation of its campaign on May 6, 2025, after a ceasefire agreement with the group, brokered to halt attacks on American ships. This withdrawal left Israel to confront the Iran-backed rebels alone, as the US deal did not address Houthi aggression toward Israel.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned, “Yemen’s law is Tehran’s law,” vowing a relentless response to Houthi attacks and hinting at a potential naval and air blockade if hostilities persist.
The IDF’s operation, described as a “powerful response” to Houthi aggression, aims to disrupt their military capabilities, including weapons smuggling allegedly facilitated by Iran. However, The Guardian quoted Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea vowing retaliation. “Our operations will continue until the aggression on Gaza stops,” he said.
