Israel vows to protect civilians from Hezbollah attacks

New Delhi, September 23: The Middle East is staring at widening of the military conflict while Israel carpet bombed southern and eastern parts of Lebanon. The health ministry of Lebanon confirmed deaths of 274 people and injury to 1024.

Lebanon-based Hezbollah is also raining missiles in the Israeli occupied West Bank and Golan Heights. Unconfirmed reports said that the Hezbollah fired missiles destroyed an Israeli runway which forced its fighter gets to land in a neighbouring country.

The Lebanese Minister of Health claimed that “Israel is hitting hospitals, health centers and ambulances”. The Lebanese media reported that over 80,000 phone calls were made by Israel to the people in South Lebanon. The people were asked to move to the northern parts of the country.

The Israeli media reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be holding security consultations in the fortified command room at the Ministry of Defense.

The escalation of war between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah has refreshed memories of the 2006 July War. Over 1200 people had reportedly died in Lebanon in the 2006 war which had lasted a total of 30 days.

“Ongoing Israeli strikes on Lebanon killed at least 274 people and wounded 1,024, including women and children,” said the Lebanese Health Ministry on Monday.

The security analysts claimed that Israel launched air strikes on southern Lebanon with an aim at a mass expulsion of the civilians, with the Israeli forces. Israel per local media reports made thousands of phone calls to the civilians to warn them to migrate northwards.

The Israeli Defence Forces in a statement said that Hezbollah attacked civilians with 150 rockets in the last few hours. Reports said that the Israeli fighter jets launched attacks in the vicinity Hazarta town in the Central Beqaa region, eastern Lebanon.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said: “We will continue to forcefully strike Hezbollah for safety of residents living close to the Lebanese border.”

Israel released videos of the missile attacks by Hezbollah which were neutralized by the Iron Dome. “We hold the Lebanese government accountable for every Hezbollah rocket launched from its soil. We will never apologize for protecting the people of Israel,” posted the Israeli government in a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry warned Israel of “dangerous consequences”. Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani on Monday termed Israeli attacks in Lebanon “insane”. The Israeli military spokesperson claimed that 35 rockets were launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon towards Carmel, as well as the upper, lower and central Galilee.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday asserted that Israel is seeking a wider conflict. He added that Iran is restrained to avert an escalation.

Al Monitor reported that “the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon expressed grave concern for the safety of civilians in southern parts of the country”.
