New Delhi, October 27: Supreme leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday a gave call for retaliatory strikes against Israel. Khamenei in a terse message termed Israel’s attacks on Iran “miscalculation”.
Khamenei on Sunday met a prayer meeting for the military personnel of Iran killed in defence of the country. At least four Iranian military personnel had been killed in the Saturday strikes by Iran.
“The Zionist regime made a wrong move two nights ago. We must make them understand the power, determination, and initiative of the Iranian people,” Khamenei said in a post on X. His message is the only response yet from the top leadership of Iran.

Khamenei is the supreme religious leader of Iran. He is also the supreme commander of the military forces as per the Constitution. The foreign affairs ministry of Iran had also warned Israel of retaliation after the Saturday attacks.
Khamenei at the same time also said on Sunday that Israel’s attack on Iran “should neither be exaggerated nor minimised”. Iranian military officials had been claiming that the aid defence system had neutralised the Israeli attacks.
“The evil perpetrated by the Zionist regime (Israel) two nights ago must not be exaggerated or minimised,” added Khamenei on X. Iranian supreme leader’s messages are being widely interpreted for the next course of actions.
Israel had warned Iran against retaliation. Israel had claimed to have concluded the strikes against Israel on Saturday. As many as a dozen fighter jets had flown over 1250 kms to launch air strikes deep inside Iran. Israel had bombed parts of Tehran also while targeting three provinces of the Islamic Republic.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also paid tribute to the killed soldiers on Sunday. Pezeshkian hailed killed soldiers for efforts in “defending their land without fear”.
The remarks of Khamenei have come amid assessments that a regional conflict in the Middle East is on the card. The Middle East observers have been arguing that it’s a call of Iran to start a war with Israel.
But Khamenei has sought to sober the sentiments of Iranians by stressing that Israel attacks should not be exaggerated. Israel’s attacks had come in retaliation to Iran’s missile attacks against Tel Aviv.
Israel claims to be fighting battles on seven fronts. Israel has vowed to dismantle the military infrastructure of the Hamas and the Hezbollah. Iran describes the Hamas and the Hezbollah as ‘Resistance Forces against Occupiers’ in the region.
