Israel Bombs Iran’s Missile Launchers after Tel Aviv Towers were Hit

 TRH News Desk

NEW DELHI, June 14, 2025 – Iranian state television announced on Saturday that Brigadier General Mehdi Rabbani, deputy chief of operations, and Brigadier General Gholamreza Mehrabi, head of intelligence at the Armed Forces General Staff, were killed in Israeli airstrikes.

The deaths were reported after Iran launched missile attacks on Israel. Iranian admissions add to the growing toll of senior military figures lost in Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion,” which targeted Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure.

Concurrently, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed they bombed multiple missile launchers in Iran, escalating the already volatile conflict. Iranian state media, including Press TV, detailed that Rabbani and Mehrabi were among the casualties in strikes that hit Tehran and other strategic locations on June 13.

The report highlighted their roles in overseeing operational planning and intelligence coordination, calling their deaths a “martyrdom in defence of the nation.” This follows the earlier confirmed killings of IRGC Commander-in-Chief Hossein Salami, Quds Force leader Esmail Qaani, and Armed Forces Chief Mohammad Bagheri, as reported by Al Jazeera and The New York Times.

The IDF, in a statement released at 11:30 a.m. IST, claimed responsibility for striking “dozens of missile launchers” across Iran, including sites in Khorramabad and Isfahan, aimed at neutralizing Iran’s retaliatory capabilities. IDF spokesperson Effie Defrin told Ynet, “These strikes were precise and targeted to prevent further missile attacks on Israeli soil following Iran’s barrage on Tel Aviv.”

The statement came hours after Iran fired over 100 ballistic missiles at Tel Aviv on Friday night, killing three and injuring 34, according to Magen David Adom cited by The Jerusalem Post.

The conflict has intensified rapidly since Israel’s pre-emptive strikes on June 13, which also claimed the lives of nuclear scientist Fereydoun Abbasi and General Gholamali Rashid, per The Guardian. Iran’s retaliatory missile attack on Tel Aviv, launched at 2:30 a.m. local time Saturday, prompted Israel to activate its Iron Dome system, intercepting “dozens” of missiles, though several struck residential areas in Rishon LeZion and Ramat Gan, as reported by Channel 12 News. Haaretz noted that Israeli jets conducted follow-up strikes on Iranian missile bases Saturday morning, targeting launch sites near Kermanshah.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a televised address at 10:00 a.m. IST, vowed a “decisive response,” stating that successors to the fallen commanders would continue the fight. Mehrabad International Airport remains closed until Sunday, 2 p.m. local time, per SNN News, as Iran braces for further Israeli action. FlightRadar24 data shows a continued avoidance of Israeli and Jordanian airspace by commercial airlines.

On the ground, CBS News reported that Israeli troops are evacuating residents from damaged areas in Tel Aviv, where a high-rise was hit, while Al Jazeera’s Anas Al-Sharif noted civilian casualties in Gaza due to Israeli retaliatory strikes on aid seekers.

The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called for an emergency Security Council meeting, urging de-escalation as diplomatic efforts falter. With both nations poised for further military engagement, the region stands on the brink of all-out war.
