New Delhi, February 25, 2026 — Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in a thread on X made a strong case for diplomacy to prevail as the US is making evident that an attack on Iran is imminent. Araghchi ruled out Iran making efforts to acquire nuclear bomb. US President Donald Trump in a pre-SOTU lunch with reporters said that “Iran doesn’t know how to say the secret phrase — we won’t make a bomb.” He said that Iran is desperate for a deal.
With the US F22s landing in Israel and Turkey making a post-Iran regime change preparations, US Secretary of the State Marco Rubio briefed the Gang of Eight, a select group of bipartisan leaders in the Congress who are briefed on security matters, in Washington.
After the briefing, US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke briefly to reporters, saying “this is serious.” He stressed that the Trump Administration “needs to make its case to the American people.”
Speculations claimed that Trump in his State of the Union address on Tuesday afternoon will dwell upon the rationales for an attack on Iran. His speech is expected to be long — possibly three hours. Another strong hint of an imminent attack on Iran came from Bahrain as the US moved its naval assets away from the base there. Strategic analysts claimed that this showed the US taking away its naval assets from the missile range of Iran. Reports also said that Iran finalised plan to buy anti-ship missiles from China amid war clouds with the US.
Amid rising speculations of an imminent attack on Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared a video message in which he sought to justify the attack on the Islamic Republic. Netanyahu stressed that Israel is not a liability for the US but a strategic asset.
