A wave of reactions accuses IndiGo of “arrogance”, inadequate preparedness for new FDTL norms, and exploiting its market dominance as passengers demand compensation, accountability and regulatory intervention.

New Delhi, December 6, 2025IndiGo’s ongoing operational crisis has triggered an unprecedented backlash from industry veterans, business leaders and frequent flyers, with many accusing India’s largest carrier of “arrogance”, poor planning and hiding behind regulatory changes.

MK Gupta, former Member of the Railway Board, issued one of the strongest rebukes. Writing on LinkedIn, Gupta said, “Indigo has become very arrogant, no care for customers. It is time that individual sufferers sue them in court of law… If we wait for any action from government, things will further deteriorate.”

A similar sentiment echoed through multiple LinkedIn posts. Aviation professional Sanjay Shrotriya criticised the airline’s full-page apology ad, calling it an “empty sorry”. He argued that IndiGo should have channelled those funds into direct monetary compensation, adding that the government should have mandated double compensation for stranded passengers.

Corporate leader S Raj termed the situation “terrible”, alleging that the government appears “blackmailed” by an airline that controls over 60% of India’s domestic market. “Two out of every three flights are IndiGo. The opposition should have used this moment to question the government, but is busy shouting Adani-Ambani,” he wrote.

Speculation over industry shake-ups also surfaced. Commentator Harendra Singh Chauhan suggested it “would not be a surprise” if large conglomerates such as Adani or Ambani re-entered the aviation sector by taking over struggling airlines and challenging IndiGo’s dominance.

Venugopal Nair, another frequent flyer, held both the airline and the Aviation Ministry responsible. “If the Ministry knew IndiGo wasn’t prepared for the new rules, it should have postponed implementation with penalties or warned passengers in advance,” he wrote.

The chorus of criticism reflects mounting pressure on aviation regulators to ensure accountability as passengers continue to face cancellations, delays and disrupted travel plans.
