India’s LoC Village Simari Finally Gets Electrification, L<PG Connections

By Amit Kumar

New Delhi, April 12, 2025: In a landmark achievement for rural development and clean energy access, Simari, a small village located along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, has become fully solar-electrified and LPG-enabled.

Once cut off from essential utilities due to its rugged terrain and proximity to the border, Simari has now emerged as a shining example of sustainable transformation.

This milestone comes as part of a collaborative push by the Government of India, local administration, and renewable energy agencies to bring clean, reliable energy to the country’s remotest corners. Every household in Simari now enjoys 24/7 access to solar electricity, powering lights, heating systems, and essential appliances.

In tandem, the rollout of LPG connections has replaced traditional biomass-based cooking methods, significantly reducing indoor pollution and easing the burden on women who previously collected firewood for hours each day.

“This is a new dawn for Simari. Solar power and LPG have brought convenience and hope to our homes,” said a local teacher. He also stated that “our children can now study at night, and cooking has become much safer and quicker”.

The solar infrastructure includes rooftop panels with battery storage systems, ensuring consistent supply even during harsh winters or cloudy days. The LPG distribution is supported by regular supply routes coordinated with local agencies, ensuring that the new amenities are both accessible and sustainable.

Officials lauded the initiative as a blueprint for empowering border communities while strengthening national security through inclusive growth. “Empowering our LoC villages is not just about development — it’s about resilience and dignity. Simari is now a beacon of what’s possible when innovation meets intent,” said a senior official from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

Simari’s transformation reflects India’s larger mission to achieve energy equity, reduce carbon emissions, and uplift marginalized communities. With plans already underway to replicate this model in neighboring villages, Simari may soon become the first of many such “solar-smart” settlements along the LoC.

From isolation to innovation, Simari’s success story underscores the power of clean energy to change lives — and lights the way for a brighter, greener, and more inclusive India.
