Indian blitzkrieg scorches Trudeau; Canada in dock over terror sanctuary
By Manish Anand
New Delhi, September 21: India has moved with scorching agility to launch a blistering counterattack on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claim of “credible allegations against Government of India” made in parliament to implicate New Delhi in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi on Thursday was unsparing as he said “Canada is becoming a safe haven of terrorists and extremists”. He announced diplomatic staff cut down for the Canadian embassy in New Delhi, stressing that the number of diplomats far outnumber the requirements, while also freezing Indian visa service in Canada.
Bagchi also almost said that Trudeau had been lying, for no evidence had been shared with India by Canada on the killing of Nijjar, who was shot dead on Vancouver. Congress Lok Sabha Ravneet Singh Bittu told reporters on Thursday that Nijjar was involved with those who had assassinated his grandfather (Beat Singh, former Chief Minister of Punjab).
Stunned by the India’s blistering attack on Canada and designating the G7 country as a safe haven for terrorists, Trudeau sought to rescue himself by arguing in New York on Thursday that his country follows rule of law and expects India to cooperate in the investigation of the killing of Nijjar.
India has officially demanded that Canada should hand over the Khalistani terrorists living in Canada. The National Investigative Agency released names of six Khalistani terrorists, which included three allegedly living in Canada. India also moved swiftly to urge upon the television channels to not give space to terror sympathizers in their shows.
Visibly shaken by India’s diplomatic blitzkrieg, Trudeau told reporters in New York that he was not seeking to “cause problems with India”. But diplomatic community in India concurs that Trudeau has caused an irreparable damage to India-Canada relations in the aftermath of Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly scolding him on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit for allowing the soil of Canada to separatists and terrorists to launch attacks on Indian diplomats, embassies, and also against the Hindu diaspora in his country.
Trudeau was stranded in New Delhi, while he was denied the honour of a bilateral meeting with Modi as India seems to have firmed up the resolve to hold Ottawa accountable for fostering the radical elements who are working against the interests of India. Modi, incidentally, had confronted UK and Australian Prime Ministers also for the incidents involving the radical Sikhs who had staged attacks on the Indian community and Hindu temples in their countries.
