Major Escalation in India-Pakistan Tension with Drones Launching Attacks

NEW DELHI, May 8, 2025 – The Indian Army said late Thursday night that Pakistan bid to escalate conflicts with India has been negated.
In a fast-paced development, in the last 24-hour, India and Pakistan tension has now snowballed into an aerial show of strength, with a war like scenario sweeping through the two South Asian nations.
Reports claimed that India downed at least three F16 fighter jets of Pakistan. But there is no confirmation either from India or Pakistan. A deepfake video of Pakistani Army spokesperson went viral on social media in which he is shown admitting that jets had been shot down.
The evening saw Pakistan sending a swarm of drones to attack Jammu’s key bases, including airport, per reports. But India’s air defence system neutralized the drones.
“Indian Armed Forces proportionate response negates Pakistan bid to escalate,” posted the Indian Army on X. The message was in the backdrop of India destroying the air-borne munitions launched by Pakistan to attack several cities in India.
Pakistan launched the aerial onslaught hours after Foreign Secretary of India Vikram Misri during a press conference said that the Indian drone attack destroyed the air defence system in Lahore in Pakistan. Misri said that India pressed drones into action after the failed bid of Pakistan to attack 15 Indian cities last night.
Several cities in the western and northern parts of India are resorting to blackouts. Educational institutions will be closed in some of the cities in the western parts of the country.
Reports also claimed that India launched counter attacks on Lahore and Islamabad. There are no official confirmations yet. But video footages showed major attacks on Lahore and Islamabad in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to be in huddles with his top security advisors. Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah is overseeing defence preparedness with a series of meeting.
The major escalation in India-Pakistan tension also drew US Secretary of the State Marco Rubio as he called Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sherif to counsel him to abandon sponsorship of terrorism. Union Minister for External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar continues to speak to his counterparts across continents.
