LUCKNOW, July 12, 2025 — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday called illegal religious conversions a “deep conspiracy” against the country and society. He warned that such activities aimed at disrupting social harmony will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Welcoming the ‘Shri Tegh Bahadur Sandesh Yatra’ at his official residence in Lucknow, the Chief Minister said some forces are “deliberately attempting to change the character of the country” through unlawful conversions. He stressed that the state government is taking strict action against those involved in such activities.
Illegal Conversion Network Busted in Balrampur
Referring to a recent crackdown in Balrampur, the Chief Minister revealed that the government has exposed a major illegal conversion racket, which allegedly received foreign funding to facilitate mass conversions, especially targeting Scheduled Castes through fear and inducement.
He said, “A case has come to light where conversion rates were fixed and over ₹100 crore worth of suspicious transactions were detected across 40 bank accounts.” The case is under investigation, and the Chief Minister underscored that such conspiracies pose a serious threat to both economic and social security.
Sandesh Yatra to Commemorate Guru Tegh Bahadur’s Sacrifice
The Chief Minister inaugurated the ‘Shri Tegh Bahadur Sandesh Yatra’, which will travel from Lucknow to Delhi via Kanpur, Etawah, and Agra, culminating at the historic Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Chandni Chowk. Guru Tegh Bahadur was killed in 1675 by Mughal ruler Aurangzeb.
Sprinkling flowers on the Yatra’s launch procession, Adityanath said, “This journey revives the memory of immense sacrifice in the face of oppression and reminds us of our journey towards becoming an independent and strong nation.”
Upholding Legacy of Sikh Gurus’ Sacrifices
Highlighting the relevance of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom in today’s times, the Chief Minister said the Sikh Gurus built a tradition of sacrifice, resistance, and spiritual courage that must be remembered and upheld. He cautioned that attempts to create division between Hindus and Sikhs have occurred in the past and urged the people to remain vigilant against such divisive forces.
“No individual, regardless of caste or religion, should be forced to give up their culture and faith under pressure or fear. Such coercion is against the Constitution and social harmony,” said Adityanath.
“The Sandesh Yatra aims to spread awareness about the historical and spiritual legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur and reinforce communal harmony and national unity,” said the state government in a media statement.
