Russia to Hit Military & Political Targets to Revenge Kirillov Killing

New Delhi, December 18: With just a month to go for inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the US, Ukraine killed Russia’s head of the Nuclear Defence Forces Igor Kirilov. The targeted killing of Kirilov is set to further escalate Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Russia has vowed to avenge the killing of Kirilov. This also confirmed the precise killing of Kirilov by detonating and explosive-laden scooter in Moscow.
Megatron, a Russia-sympathetic handle on X, said that “a very strong blow will definitely follow, and that on NATO senior officials. (US President Joe) Biden is trying to escalate the war at any cost before the arrival of Trump and will probably succeed”.

Trump recently has picked up NATO also for his rhetorical onslaughts. But NATO is publicly countering claims of Trump for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.
The NATO secretary general Mark Rutte has warned of a prolonged Russia-Ukraine War. Russia has also vowed to target NATO.
Kirillov was the head of the Russia’s biological and chemical weapons unit. His deputy was also killed in the scooter blast. The video of the blast is buzzing on the internet.
CBS News quoted Russia’s Investigative Committee confirming the killing of Kirillov and his deputy in a special operation by Ukraine. The media outlet quoted unnamed Ukrainian intelligence officials, saying: “Kirillov was a war criminal and an absolutely legitimate target”. Ukraine accused orders to use prohibited chemical weapons against the Ukrainian military, added the news outlet while quoting sources in the intelligence unit of SBU.

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, trashed denial of the US State Department of involvement in the killing of Kirillov. Reports said that Russia is seeing Biden blessing the escalation in military conflicts with Russia in his last few days in the office.
Kyiv Independent had earlier reported that prosecutors in Ukraine had charged Kirillov in absentia for use of banned chemical weapons. The UK had also sanctioned Kirillov and his unit for allegedly using the banned substances.

Senior Russian security official Dmitry Medvedev presided over a meeting in Moscow after the killing of Kirillov. Medvedev is former President of Russia. Russian television channels quoted Medvedev, saying that “military and political leadership of Ukraine will be targets as Moscow will press to avenge the killing of senior general”.
The security analysts are widely commenting on the killing of Kirillov for revealing the scope of Russia-Ukraine War surviving the Trump Presidency. “Russia-Ukraine War is now in a state of stalemate,” noted Lt. Gen (Retd) KJ Singh in his book General’s Jottings: National Security, Conflicts and Strategies.
