How US & China get along will determine future of humanity: Xi Jinping
By Our Special Correspondent
New Delhi, October 9: Sensing the spot in which the US is caught, Chinese President warmly hosted the bipartisan US Congressional delegation, while serving him with his charm offensive with an eye to mend ties with Washington, which had gone into a tailspin following the visit of former Congress Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
“The China and US relationship is the most important bilateral relationship in the world,” said Xi, who looked relaxed and at ease while addressing the Congressional delegation led by Senator Chuck Schumer. China literally rolled out a red carpet for the Congressional visit, as Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted them warmly.
“In this world of change and chaos, how China and the US get along will determine the destiny of the humanity,” Xi remarked to the nodding Schumer. Xi added that “the US should demonstrate broadmindedness, vision and readiness to rise to the occasion”
Wang also met with the delegation on the same day. “He welcomed the delegation to China for face-to-face communication, and encouraged the members to understand China more accurately, view China more objectively, manage differences between the two sides more rationally, and play a constructive role in restoring China-US relations to the right track,” stated Chinese ambassador in the US, Xie Feng in a post on X. “China cannot become the US; nor can the US become China,” Wang was quoted by Xie having told the US Congressional delegation.
The Chinese minister also stressed that the two sides need to respect the development path chosen by each other’s people, and respect each other’s core interests and development rights.
“Competition and confrontation are not in line with the trend of the times. Still less can they fix one’s own problems or address challenges facing the world. Common interests between China and the US far outweigh differences. Our respective success is an opportunity, not challenge, to each other,” argued Xi.
The Chinese President called for the two countries to properly handle the bilateral relationship, show mutual respect, coexist in peace and pursue win-win cooperation, promote the wellbeing of both peoples and human progress, and contribute to world peace and development.
“I raised with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Wang Yi the Hamas atrocities against Israel and the need for the world to stand together against terrorism and with the Israeli people. I pointedly asked that they strengthen their statement. They did,” Schumer stated in a post on X.
