Advances in blood tests, enzyme screening, and telehealth are turning the tide against one of the deadliest cancers—before it’s too late

By TRH Health Desk

NEW DELHI, August 9, 2025 — Pancreatic cancer has long carried the grim nickname “silent killer” for a reason: by the time symptoms appear, the disease is often advanced. But that narrative is beginning to change.

With the rise of early detection blood test kits, pancreatic enzyme testing, and virtual oncology consultations, spotting trouble before it’s too late has become faster, easier, and—thanks to expanded insurance coverage—more affordable than ever.

Medical experts urge those over 50, or anyone with a history of diabetes or cancer, to consider regular screening. Health experts advice that “early detection can save lives and avoid crippling treatment costs.”

Spotting the Early Warning Signs

Persistent upper abdominal pain radiating to the back is one of the earliest symptoms, often mistaken for ulcers or heartburn. Other warning signs include:

  • Chronic fatigue — Deep, persistent tiredness unrelieved by rest.
  • Changes in stool — Pale, greasy, floating stools may indicate enzyme deficiency.
  • Painless jaundice — Yellow skin and dark urine without discomfort.
  • Unexplained weight loss — Losing more than 5% of body weight in a few months.
  • New-onset diabetes — Particularly without family history or lifestyle risks.
  • Persistent nausea or vomiting — Especially after fatty meals.
  • Muscle wasting and weakness — Even without weight loss.

Tests That Can Save You

Common diagnostic tools now widely available through clinics and telehealth platforms include:

  • Abdominal CT scans and MRIs
  • Endoscopic ultrasounds
  • Fecal fat tests and enzyme panels
  • Bilirubin and liver function tests
  • DEXA scans for muscle loss

Most are covered under cancer detection insurance or digestive health plans, making early detection financially accessible.

The earlier pancreatic cancer is found, the less invasive—and less expensive—the treatment. In many cases, early-stage detection means surgery or targeted therapy rather than months of aggressive chemotherapy.

Search interest in phrases like “cancer detection for over 50”, “pancreatic enzyme test at home”, and “virtual nutrition screening” reflects growing public awareness. The silent killer may not stay silent for much longer—if people act now.

According to the GLOBOCAN 2020 report, approximately 12,000 deaths were attributed to pancreatic cancer annually in India. GLOBOCAN 2022 estimates 467,409 deaths from pancreatic cancer globally, with an ASR of 4.2 per 100,000 people. The World Health Organization’s Global Cancer Observatory (GCO) and other sources confirm pancreatic cancer as the **sixth leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide in 2022. These figures highlight the significant mortality burden of pancreatic cancer, particularly its high lethality despite lower incidence in India compared to global rates.
