Kash Patel’s Confirmation as FBI Director Cheers Hindu Group

Washington, February 20: A US Hindu advocacy group has asked newly appointed FBI Director Kash Patel to dismantle the human trafficking network. The US Senate confirmed Patel for the post of the FBI Director.

Patel faced major hurdles on way of his confirmation. His open political affiliations for US President Donald Trump were cited as reasons for opposition by a section of the senators.

HinduPact, a US-based group for advocacy of the Hindus, has asked Patel to dismantle the human trafficking. It said that “the illegal human trafficking syndicate brings untold miseries on the people who are illegally brought into the US”.

The US has so far flown illegal immigrants on three military planes to India. The three military planes all landed in Amritsar. The deportees have claimed that they had been handcuffed and also shackled.

The US-based group also demanded a probe into the “systemic attacks on Hindu temples and vandalism of Gandhi statues as hate crimes”. “The rise in vandalism targeting Hindu temples and Mahatma Gandhi statues should be treated as hate crimes and investigated with the highest priority,” added the group.

It stated that “these incidents threaten not only places of worship and iconic monuments but also the ideals of tolerance and religious freedom that define our nation”. Union Minister for External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in his first meeting with US Secretary of the State Marco Rubio had also raised the issue of attacks on the Indian consulate in San Franscisco.

HinduPACT calls on the FBI to identify and dismantle illegal human trafficking networks that contribute to illegal immigration and impose tragic consequences on vulnerable individuals,” added the group. The US has flown some of the illegal Indian immigrants to Panama in the latest trail of crackdown against the target people.

“We request that the FBI set up a formal mechanism to meet regularly with Hindu leaders to better understand the community’s perspective on Hinduphobia. Concerns such as the targeting of Hindus based on the sacred symbol of the Swastika, the so-called ‘caste’ bogey, and online anti-Hindu tropes and memes are manifestations of Hindu hatred,” added the group in a media statement.

It also stated that “these warrant ongoing, respectful dialogue and education with the FBI so that they can be identified and countered before leading to further vandalism or violence”.

The group also urged upon Patel to “prioritize (recovery and repatriation of) stolen ancient Hindu and Buddhist artifacts”. “Tens of thousands of sacred ancient artifacts have been stolen from India, Nepal, Cambodia, and other Southeast Asian countries, often ending up in museums and private collections in the West. We urge the FBI Art Crime Team under Director Patel to intensify efforts to recover and repatriate these stolen sacred artifacts from Hindu and Buddhist traditions,” added the group.
