Hindu College Alumni Bond with Sri Lankan PM Amarasuriya

The OSA of Hindu College met PM of Sri Lanka Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, honouring her with a Special Distinguished Alumni Award.

New Delhi, October 18, 2025 — The Old Students’ Association (OSA) of Hindu College, University of Delhi, met the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, during her official visit to India. The OSA delegation, led by its president Ravi Burman, called on Amarasuriya on Friday to felicitate her as a proud alumna of Hindu College.
Amarasuriya, who completed her B.A. (Hons.) in Sociology from Hindu College between 1991 and 1994 under the ICCR Scholarship Programme of the Government of India. “She has brought immense pride to her alma mater through her exceptional journey — from student life at Delhi University to becoming the first head of state from Hindu College,” added the OSA in a media statement.
During the meeting, the OSA delegation presented Amarasuriya with a Special Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of her outstanding public service, leadership, and contribution to society and politics. Calling it a “proud milestone in the college’s storied history,” Burman highlighted that Hindu College continues to inspire generations of leaders across diverse fields.
Amarasuriya expressed her appreciation for the OSA’s dynamic role in alumni engagement and institutional development, remarking, “I am glad to see an active and vibrant Old Students’ Association that continues to uphold the spirit of Hindu College.”
She also noted with pride that Hindu College has retained the No. 1 position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 College Rankings, reflecting its excellence in academics, research, and innovation. “The Prime Minister commended the OSA’s contributions to this achievement, particularly its coordination and support during the NIRF assessment process,” added the media statement.
Going nostalgic, Amarasuriya fondly recalled her professors, classmates, and the vibrant campus life of her college days. She shared that she had visited the college a day earlier and was delighted to witness its remarkable transformation. Extending a warm invitation to the OSA members, she assured her full cooperation for future collaborations between alumni bodies in India and Sri Lanka.
The OSA delegation included Mr. Ajay Verma (Secretary, OSA), Dr. Kavita Sharma (former Principal and Vice President, OSA), Ms. Trivedi (Treasurer, OSA), and Mr. Vivek Nagpal (Patron, OSA).
The meeting concluded on a warm and emotional note, symbolizing a deep bond between the college and its illustrious alumna. The OSA described the occasion as “a moment of immense pride and inspiration for the entire Hindu College fraternity.”
