New Delhi, July 13: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday called on the Congress parliamentary party president Sonia Gandhi. The two leaders discussed plans for the Jharkhand Assembly elections.

“The two leaders discussed assembly elections and other issues,” said a senior functionary of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

Hemant Soren was accompanied by his wife Kalpana Soren. “During the meeting, the assembly elections to be held at the end of the year and other issues were discussed,” added the JMM functionary.

The JMM leads the Opposition bloc, the Indian National Developmental and Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), in Jharkhand. The Congress is also rushing to take guard in the Jharkhand poll.

Both the parties are preparing to contest the elections under the leadership of Hemant Soren. In the Lok Sabha elections, the Opposition bloc was successful in winning five seats out of the total 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Jharkhand.

The JMM leaders are upbeat that the release of Hemant Soren from the Ranchi Jail will galvanize the poll campaign of the Opposition. “The Opposition will gain from the sympathy factor. The JMM and Congress can get an edge especially on the seats reserved for the tribal,” added the JMM functionary.

The Opposition had won all the five reserved parliamentary constituencies in Jharkhand. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was not able to induct a tribal leader in the council of ministers as the party had lost all the seats.

After meeting Sonia Gandhi, Hemant Soren said: “The BJP is working to insult the judiciary. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will also come out of the jail soon.”

The Jharkhand CM said that he had not meet Sonia Gandhi after being released from the jail. “There will be discussions about the assembly elections to be held in Jharkhand. The people of the country are very patient and help each other. They tolerate a lot and show it through vote when they get a chance,” he told reporters.

After his release from the jail, Hemant Soren accused the BJP of trapping him under a conspiracy. He is adopting an aggressive attitude against the BJP on this issue.

The BJP is building poll campaign on the issue of corruption in Jharkhand. The BJP has also started preparations for the assembly elections.
