Opinion Watch

Headmaster Dhankar

The Indian Express has squarely blamed Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar for “ensuring that the House would be mired in raucous conflict between the treasury and the Opposition benches”. Dhankar has asked the privileges committee of the House to investigate the “disorderly conduct” of the 12 Opposition MPs. The Noida-based daily reminded Dhankar’s Chair Activism when in Winter Session of Parliament he wanted Parliamentary supremacy over the judiciary, underlining that the members of Parliament convey will of the people on the floor of the House, while also referring to Article 105 and 122 of the Constitution.

The role of the Chair in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha is being questioned by the Opposition for no reasons. There is an air of regimentation of the MPs. Press gallery for years in both the Houses hasn’t seen debate that could enlighten. The office of the Chair has seen days of glory when the likes of P Sangma graced the position.

Ukraine Riddle

The Pioneer has hailed US President Joe Biden’s visit to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, calling it courageous. But the Noida-based daily has called for greater efforts to end the Ukraine War, asking for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the G20 to step in.

Yet, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, vented out his belligerence, as he spoke of the people in Ukraine held hostage by Kyiv regime and its western overlords, underlined the daily. Putin indeed sought to plug in the “cultural drift” in the western churches as they pursue “gender-neutral” gods.

India may have missed the bus to broker the peace in the conflict of century. Wang Yi, China’s top diplomat, with his European whirlwind tour has shifted the lever of peace breakthrough in the hand of Xi Jinping, the Chinese President. But the war may not be getting over anytime soon, and it may follow several its predecessors in Europe which went on for years.

ED Political

Enforcement Directorate came knocking at the doors of Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh ahead of the plenary of party in Raipur. Now, this need not be explained, for even a novice in politics would know what the ED is currently busy with.

The Asian Age has questioning the timing of the ED raids, while underlining that arrests had already been made in the past in the Rs 500 crore coal scam involving politicians and bureaucrats. The daily said that no day goes without the ED raiding Opposition leaders, reminding the outreach of the agency in Karnataka, Delhi and other states.

Political misuse of investigating agencies is India’s post-modern heritage. A former director of the ED is now an MLA in Uttar Pradesh. Opposition leaders must take dips in Holy Ganga and come clean on corruption issue to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
