Hallucinating Opposition
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is destiny’s child. For no achievements of his own, he eats cakes from both hands. Now, he wants to be an architect of a grand alliance against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Pioneer in an Editorial has called the bluff of the Bihar chief minister with cold-blooded plain facts. There’s not a single Opposition party which is in a position to cross 100-mark in the Lok Sabha, said the Noida-based daily to Kumar’s claims that the BJP could be stopped below 100 seats level in the lower House of Parliament in 2024. The daily has given an account of the might of the BJP that polled 37.76 per cent of the votes (overall 25.16 per cent) where the party contested polls in the Lok Sabha against Congress’ 19.7 per cent (13.5 per cent overall). In addition, there is K Chandrashekhar Rao, who is in an own world.
Congress has seen enough of the tricks of the likes of Kumar, and the party is no more pliant to Opposition outfits. Bihar is now always in news for day light robbery and murders. Kumar knows but will not admit the fact that the Opposition has been decimated because of their sheer inability to deliver good governance.
Shinde Sena
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has now pocketed the Shiv Sena with its bow-arrow symbol. Uddhav Thackeray has followed in the footsteps of Chirag Paswan to lose the visible political legacy of their respective fathers not too many years after their deaths.
The Asian Age in an Editorial has said that the political parties just like human cells tend to divide. The daily recalled Dravidar Kazhagam from where the now dominant DMK and AIADMK were born. The Janata Party and later the Janata Dal were the motherships from which several political parties were born, added the daily, which underlined that the Election Commission was indeed in a hurry to decide the symbol matter even while the matter is still pending before the Supreme Court.
Regional parties are identity-based and personality-led. Barring the BJP, Congress, Left, and DMK, there may not be any party which has cadres to count on. Also, the family-owned political enterprises, as seen in Bihar, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, reek of the revival of political zamindars. Thus, there was no furor even among the Opposition parties against Thackeray’s losing Shiv Sena.
Organ Donation
The Indian Express in an Editorial has welcomed the changes made by the Health Ministry for organ donation, which include doing away with 65 years age cap and donor registration charges, and domicile-related restrictions. The Noida-based daily, however, turned spotlight on the parallel black market of organ transplants and management of altruistic donations. The daily found no virtue in the European system that all people are donors unless they opt out, stressing on the need for awareness.
India records third highest organ transplants in the world. But facilities are limited to a metropolitan centres. This capacity should percolate to the district level for better outcomes.
