New Delhi, September 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, true to his wont, has launched the people into the vocation of guess works by calling the special session of parliament without specifying the agenda. Further fuel to the rumour mill has been given by feeding PTI with source-based news that former President Ram Nath Kovind will head a committee on ‘One Nation, One Election’.

Now, the officials have been sent on the high tide of guess works by an order asking them to stay put in the national capital during the five-day special session of parliament. Highly places sources told The Raisina Hills that the order has been issued to the officials to remain in the city and attend their offices during the special session of parliament.

“Officials from the level of joint secretary and above, which include the likes of additional secretary, special secretary, secretary, have been asked to stay in the city and not leave the station. This is adding to suspense because no such order had been issued for parliament session in the past,” a top ranking official in the Central government told The Raisina Hills.

The officials are discussing the possible agenda of the special session of parliament, while some of them ventured to probe a few ministers who were found to be clueless. “It appears that ministers also are speculating just like us on the possible agenda of the special session of parliament,” said another senior official.

Union Minister for parliamentary affairs Pralhad Joshi yesterday posted a message on X, saying that a special five-day session of parliament will be held from September 18 in the ‘Amrit Kaal’ of India. It may be noted that the Modi government calls its tenure ‘Amrit Kaal’.

Joshi on Friday sought to calm down the feverish speculation on ‘One Nation, One Election’, saying that only a committee has been formed to examine the idea. Yet, the BJP, as part of a pattern, unleashed its leading lights to come on camera to count virtues of ‘One Nation, One Election’.

It may be noted that special session of parliament during the tenure of the Modi government had been called to discuss the rollout of the Goods and Services tax (GST). The special session of parliament will be taking close on the heels of the conclusion of the Indian presidency of the G20, as well as the successful landing of the Moon Mission, Chandrayaan-3.
