New Delhi, December 14, 2025 — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday named Bihar’s Road Minister Nitin Nabin as the working president of the party. Old timers recall that his father had passed away a broken heart after he was denied a place that he wished for due to intra-party rivalry.

The BJP parliamentary board in its statement on Sunday said that Nitin Nabin, 45, has been appointed working president of the party. The decision ends the extended tenure of Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, who had been doubling up as the BJP president even after his induction in the Modi Cabinet. Nadda’s single term saw extension beyond the mandate of three years, as he almost logged in five years in the office.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the appointment of Nabin. In a post on X, Modi wrote: “Nitin Nabin Ji has distinguished himself as a hardworking Karyakarta. He is a young and industrious leader with rich organisational experience and has an impressive record as MLA as well as Minister in Bihar for multiple terms.”

The Prime Minister further stated that “he has diligently worked to fulfil people’s aspirations. He is known for his humble nature and grounded style of working.” “I am confident that his energy and dedication will strengthen our Party in the times to come. Congratulations to him on becoming the BJP National Working President,” added Modi.

Nabin is a fifth term MLA from Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna in Bihar. He’s credited for spearheading road constructions in Bihar. He belongs to the Kayastha caste.

The Bankipur Assembly constituency in the past was known as Patna West. His father Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha won from this constituency in 1995 and 2000 elections.

“His father has passed away in Bihar Niwas in New Delhi following a cardiac arrest. It was stated in political circles that he had been denied his due place in the party due to intra-party politics in the Bihar unit of the BJP,” said a senior BJP functionary from Bihar.

Sinha was a contemporary of Sushil Kumar Modi and Nand Kishore Yadav, the two prominent faces of the Bihar unit of the BJP. But Sinha, said the functionary, couldn’t gain the significance that he expected.

After the death of Sinha, his son won the Assembly election in a sympathy wave. Since then, Nabin kept on raising his victory margins. “His simplicity holds him high among the people. His wife still works in a ban. Despite being a minister, he keeps simplicity,” added the BJP functionary.
