Flashing Floods
The Tribune has called for a far closer cooperation between the Centre and the states on floods’ management amid Delhi, Punjab and Haryana battling gushing waters from swelling rivers. The Chandigarh-based daily has argued that while water is a state subject, the efforts for flood-management should be better planned and executed. It also spotlighted that floods are now norms of the day in parts of the country.
At a time when world is without clues to deal with climate change, it will be tall call for the states to battle the consequences, and, therefore, there must be a national plan authority with zero political shade to chalk out climate change mitigation, as well as freeing river plains from encroachments so that they can carry the waters at east in times of rains.
Pining Moon
The Indian Express in its Editorial has noted that rejoice to the launch of Chandrayan-3 is well-deserved even while the daily underlined that the pandemic had delayed the space exploration of ISRO. The Noida-based daily also opined that ISRO had spent recent years in launching routine satellites, pushing back space exploration after the failed bid to land Chandrayan-2 previously.
The opening of the space sector to the private sector has brought a new breed of startups designing satellites, while also accelerating lab to launch know-hows. The collaboration with the US and other nations in critical technology may help ISRO fill key gaps as it now aims to land the vehicle on Moon in August, which will make India the fourth country behind the US, Russia, and China to achieve the feat.
Rightist Europe
Commenting in the backdrop of the resignation of Prime Minister of Netherlands Mark Rutte over the immigration issue, The Telegraph has mapped the sharp right turn in the politics of Europe sweeping through Spain, Italy, Greece, Finland, and Germany. The Kolkata-based daily also argued that Europe’s angst with immigration is hypocritical and racially-based, for the rich countries have welcomed Ukrainians with open arms.
Europe is indeed facing the limits of liberalism, for the immigrants from colonies whose wealth they looted to become rich have issues adjusting with the orderly lifestyle of the Europeans. While the rightists have taken firm grips in the governments in European countries, some of the nations are also guilty of delighting as spectators at the radicals planning their thuggery in countries of origins.
