FBI Seeks Public’s Help to Document Assaults and Property Damage as ICE Raids Fuel Violent Protests in Los Angeles

By TRH News Desk

NEW DELHI, June 11, 2025 – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced the establishment of a digital media tipline to gather evidence of violence linked to protests against immigration enforcement operations in and around Los Angeles.

The initiative comes as tensions escalate following US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids that sparked widespread demonstrations, some of which have turned violent.

In a statement released today, the FBI stated, “The FBI has established a digital media tipline for evidence of violence associated with opposition to immigration enforcement in/around Los Angeles. We are seeking images or video of assaults, property damage, looting, arson or other unlawful activity.”

The agency is urging the public to submit photos or videos documenting incidents of assaults, property destruction, or other illegal activities tied to the protests.

The tipline’s launch follows reports of violent clashes between protesters and law enforcement during recent ICE operations, which resulted in approximately 118 arrests across Los Angeles for suspected immigration violations and related charges, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Local media outlets have reported on the chaotic scenes, with some protests escalating into riots involving property damage and assaults on federal officers.

Newsom Slams ‘Military Dragnet’ as Trump Warns of ‘Bad Times’

CBS Los Angeles reported that the ICE raids, conducted on June 6 at locations in Westlake District, downtown L.A., and South L.A., led to 44 arrests, including one for obstruction. The operations, supported by the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), prompted citywide protests, with demonstrators gathering outside the Metropolitan Detention Center and spraying graffiti on its walls.

Yasmeen Pitts O’Keefe, an ICE spokesperson, confirmed the arrests, noting, “ICE officers and agents alongside partner law enforcement agencies executed four federal search warrants at three locations in central Los Angeles.”

The Los Angeles Times highlighted the fierce backlash from local leaders and activists, with Mayor Karen Bass condemning the raids as sowing “terror in our communities.”

The outlet reported that protests at a Home Depot in Paramount and Ambiance Apparel locations in downtown L.A. saw clashes between federal agents and demonstrators, with one protester injured while attempting to block a law enforcement vehicle.

The Times also noted that the Trump administration’s deployment of National Guard troops to assist ICE has further inflamed tensions, with Governor Gavin Newsom filing a lawsuit against the move.

KTLA reported on footage shared via the Citizen app showing migrant advocates attempting to confront law enforcement during the raids, though their efforts to free detainees were unsuccessful. The outlet detailed a specific incident at 930 Towne Ave. in L.A.’s Fashion District, where “a couple of dozen people were detained” and agents engaged in crowd control as protesters gathered.

The FBI’s tipline is part of a broader effort to investigate what the agency describes as potential “criminal conspiracy” behind the violent unrest, with Fox News reporting that the FBI is focusing on evidence of coordinated attacks on federal officers and property. The outlet noted that over 1,000 rioters reportedly surrounded a federal building, assaulting ICE officers and damaging government property, with several officers injured by rocks and other projectiles.

Local officials, including Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, have emphasized that their departments do not enforce civil immigration law, focusing instead on state and local safety. However, the Los Angeles Times reported that community advocates, such as Angelica Salas of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), have vowed to continue resisting the raids, stating, “Our community is under attack and has been terrorized. These are workers, these are fathers, these are mothers.”
