NEW DELHI, July 11, 2025 — In a heart-wrenching public appeal, the family of 19-year-old Sneha Debnath, a student at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, has expressed deep anguish over her disappearance and slammed the authorities for delays and alleged lapses in the investigation.
Sneha has been missing since the early hours of July 7, and more than 96 hours later, there are still no answers. In a statement issued on Friday, the Debnath family described Sneha as “a bright, ambitious young woman, full of life and dreams.”
She is the daughter of Sub. Maj. Hony. Lt. Pritish Debnath (retd), who is undergoing dialysis for chronic kidney failure, said the statement, which is trending on social media platform and Reddit forums.
According to the family, Sneha had told her mother that she would be dropping off a friend, Petunia, at Sarai Rohilla Railway Station for a 6:45 a.m. train. Her mother last spoke with her at 5:56 a.m. After multiple unanswered calls, her phone was found switched off later that morning.
The friend later confirmed she had not met Sneha that day. The family then traced the cab driver, who disclosed he had dropped Sneha at Signature Bridge—a location now under scrutiny due to non-functional CCTV cameras, which the family says has created a “huge blind spot.”
A 7-kilometre radius search was conducted by the NDRF on July 9 following a request from the Delhi Police Crime Branch, but no trace of Sneha has been found so far. She had no bags with her—only her phone—and her bank account has shown no activity in four months.
“What is most heartbreaking is that we still have no answers,” the family stated. They pointed out that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed more than 48 hours after Sneha was reported missing. The family firmly believes that functional CCTV surveillance at Signature Bridge could have helped determine what happened.
The emotional statement adds, “This is not just about Sneha; this is about the safety and dignity of every young woman in this city.” The family appealed to the public, media, and authorities not to let Sneha become “just another missing person’s statistic.”
