Facing Indian diplomatic summer, Trudeau’s stock sinks in Canada opinion survey

New Delhi, October 5: Miseries of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continue to mount. Already facing Indian diplomatic heat, as well as popular condemnation for hosting a Nazi companion in parliament, an opinion poll in Canada has claimed that Trudeau would be losing elections if they are held now. With 38 per cent endorsements Conservatives have substantial lead over the Liberals headed by Trudeau, said the pollster.
Nanos Research said that Trudeau’s endorsement of Liberals has taken a knock of five percentage points to drop to 26.5 per cent now. In contrast, the Conservatives led by Pierre Poilievre has gained 5.5 per cent more popular ratings, added the pollster.
Ottawa-based CTV New said that the opinion poll was held on the basis of telephonic interviews and the people were asked of their preference for the prime minister of Canada. On prime ministerial preference, Poilievre now has over nine per cent lead over Trudeau, Nanos Research stated on the findings of the opinion poll. Over 32 per cent of the people who were polled wanted Poilievre to be the prime minister of Canada, reported CTV News.
Drubbing of Trudeau in the popular rating has come close on the heels of his sensational claim in Canadian parliament that there are “credible allegations against Government of India in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar”, which has sunk the bilateral ties with India to a new low. Within Canada also, Trudeau has been slammed for making the allegation against Indian on the basis of “open-sourced information”, which is a term used for social media mined inputs.
David Eby, the premier of the British Columbia, had hauled Trudeau over coal for not sharing intelligence with the Opposition leaders before making allegation against India. While there are allegations that China has a say in the domestic politics of Canada amid India’s charge that Ottawa now is a safe haven for terrorists, Trudeau is seemingly facing disaffection among the people for his hobnobbing with extremists who have been designated as terrorists.
Meanwhile, India in Thursday reiterated that Canada has been asked to take back 41 of its diplomats from New Delhi. The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi charged that the Canadian diplomats are interfering in the internal affairs of India.
“Given the much higher diplomatic presence of Canadian diplomats here and their continuing interference in our internal affairs, we had sought parity in our respective diplomatic presence. Discussions are ongoing on the modalities of achieving this,” added Bagchi.
