NEW DELHI, July 11, 2025—FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino is reportedly considering resignation following a heated clash with Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, according to multiple US-based media outlets.

The controversy, which has sparked outrage among some of President Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters, centers on a recent Department of Justice (DOJ) memo that declared no further documents related to Epstein’s case would be released, intensifying tensions within the administration.

Axios reported that Bongino took a day off work on Friday after a confrontation with Bondi at the White House on Wednesday, where the two clashed over the Epstein files. “Pam said her piece. Dan said his piece. It didn’t end on friendly terms,” a source briefed on the meeting told Axios.

The dispute reportedly stemmed from a DOJ and FBI memo that concluded Epstein died by suicide in 2019 and did not maintain a “client list” of prominent figures, contradicting earlier promises of transparency, according to a report by Mediaite.

CNN in a newsbreak noted that Bongino has told associates he is weighing resignation but has not finalized his decision. Sources familiar with the matter described a broader conflict between the FBI and DOJ, with “many of President Donald Trump’s close advisers, both inside and outside the White House, increasingly frustrated with Bondi’s handling of the so-called Epstein files.”

The outlet highlighted internal dissatisfaction, with one source stating, “The whole thing has been a complete mess and no one is happy,” the report said.

The Epstein files controversy erupted after the DOJ released a memo on July 6, 2025, asserting that no additional information would be disclosed and denying the existence of a client list or evidence of blackmail. This decision contradicted earlier statements by Bondi, who in February stoked speculation about a list being “on her desk,” according to Newsweek. The release of a 10-hour surveillance video from outside Epstein’s cell, which contained a “missing minute,” further inflamed conspiracy theories and criticism, with Axios reporting that Bongino was blamed internally for the oversight.

Right-wing influencer Laura Loomer claimed on X that Bongino and FBI Director Kash Patel were “livid” with Bondi over her lack of transparency. The Independent reported that Bongino and Patel, both former promoters of Epstein-related conspiracy theories, have faced backlash from Trump’s MAGA base for supporting the memo’s conclusions. The outlet noted that Bondi’s February event with pro-Trump influencers, where she presented binders of Epstein documents—many already public—drew criticism when the contents failed to meet expectations.

The controversy has exposed deep divisions within the Trump administration, with conservative outlets like The Gateway Pundit and Brigada News warning that the Epstein files saga threatens to undermine claims of transparent governance. Sources told Brigada News that Bongino and Patel may demand Bondi’s resignation to restore confidence among their base.
