New Delhi, January 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave lessons to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators in Jaipur on Friday in politics and governance. The BJP MLAs obediently heard the prime minister telling them to focus on organizational works and amplifying the schemes of the Central government.

The meeting asserted the definite change in the state politics for the ruling BJP. The traces of former state chief minister Vasundhara Raje are clearly erased from the Rajasthan unit of the BJP. This was also visible as Raje’s images went missing from the party office in Jaipur. Additionally, she didn’t attend the meeting of the Rajasthan BJP MLAs with Modi.

The council of ministers headed by the state chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma has already been packed with the new faces who have no records of loyalties with Raje. The ‘Maharani’ of the BJP in Rajasthan appears clearly being given the message that her era in the state is now over.

The prime minister in the meeting with the legislators is learnt to have given guidance to the MLAs on how to conduct in public life. Having credited the victory in the state Assembly elections to the ‘Modi’s guarantee’, the prime minister is clearly being seen taking keen interests in the affairs of the state government, as well as the local unit of the party.

The BJP leaders argue that Modi will henceforth keep a close watch in the functioning of the state governments headed by the party, particularly the newly-elected saffron dispensations in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. They stress that the chief ministers of the three states are handpicked in a manner that they work as proteges of Modi.

Raje continues to stay away from the party affairs in Rajasthan. At the request of the Union Minister for Defence Rajnath Singh who was the BJP observer for the legislature party meeting, she had proposed the name of Bhajanlal Sharma as the leader. However, the state-based political observers had claimed that Raje had been visibly upset at the decision of the BJP top brass.

She may have to face up with an additional worry as Raje has not yet been able to establish her son Dushyant Singh in the Rajasthan politics. While Dushyant Singh has been a Lok Sabha MP, there may be doubts on his future if Raje continues to show her unhappiness for being sidelined in the state with the BJP brass. Raje is currently the BJP vice president. But the post is known to be mostly ceremonial in nature.
