Yogi Government Targets ₹30,000 Cr Investment and 10 Lakh Jobs in Electric Mobility Sector

LUCKNOW, May 28, 2025 – In a major leap towards sustainable transportation, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as India’s top state for electric vehicle (EV) adoption, outpacing traditionally progressive regions like Delhi and Maharashtra. With over 4.14 lakh electric vehicles registered, the Yogi Adityanath-led government is driving India’s green mobility transition at an unprecedented pace.
According to official figures, Delhi and Maharashtra lag significantly behind, with 1.83 lakh and 1.79 lakh EV registrations, respectively.
“This landmark achievement is the result of the Uttar Pradesh government’s aggressive push under the Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022, which aims to make the state a global hub for EV and battery production,” said the UP government in a media statement.
The policy sets an ambitious goal of attracting ₹30,000 crore in investments and generating 10 lakh employment opportunities across the EV value chain.
E-Rickshaws Fueling the Surge
A significant portion of this growth can be attributed to the widespread adoption of e-rickshaws, particularly in urban and tourist-centric regions. “E-rickshaws now account for a staggering 85% of all EV sales in Uttar Pradesh, offering a low-cost, eco-friendly solution for last-mile connectivity and small-scale logistics,” added the state government.
National Leader in FAME Scheme Utilization
Uttar Pradesh has also emerged as the largest beneficiary of the Central Government’s FAME I and FAME II schemes (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India), leveraging federal support to accelerate its e-mobility mission.
“To support the rising EV numbers, the state is prioritizing charging infrastructure. Over 300 new EV charging stations have been approved across 16 municipal bodies, with Ayodhya—an emerging tourism hub—set to host the highest number of installations,” said the state government in the media statement.
With India currently home to approximately 33,000 EV chargers (35% of which are fast chargers), Uttar Pradesh is actively working to close the gap in public infrastructure. The current EV-to-charger ratio in India stands at 135:1, significantly higher than the global optimal range of 6 to 20, as noted in a study by Alvarez & Marsal. “The Yogi government’s efforts are aimed at narrowing this gap by promoting fast-charging networks and upgrading existing facilities,” added the state government in the media statement.
It stated that the “state’s EV strategy is anchored in three key pillars: Infrastructure – Expanding a reliable and accessible charging network; Investment – Attracting global and domestic capital to build EV manufacturing capacities; and Innovation – Encouraging new technologies and business models to enhance adoption and efficiency.”
Projections suggest that India could have 102 million EVs on the road by 2030. “With Uttar Pradesh leading the charge, the state is poised not only to contribute significantly to national climate goals but also to emerge as a global contender in clean mobility,” added the state government.
