NEW DELHI, July 3, 2025 – A drive-by shooting in Chicago on Thursday left four people dead and 14 others wounded. The incident, reported around 311 W. Chicago Ave, unfolded as a dark-coloured sedan opened fire on a crowd, prompting a massive police and EMS response.

Reports said that the attack is under active investigation. Authorities recovered a likely stolen Nissan Altima and a firearm at the scene. CBS Chicago reported that victims were transported to area hospitals, with many in critical condition, highlighting the severity of the violence.

The Chicago Tribune provided further details, identifying the event as targeting a female artist, though motives remain unclear. The scene was chaotic after the shootout incident. No suspects are in custody as of 04:20 PM IST, and police are appealing for public assistance to identify the perpetrators.

Chicago has a troubling history of drive-by shootings, reflecting ongoing challenges with gun violence. The Chicago Sun-Times documented a June 1, 2025, incident in Auburn Gresham where seven teens were injured during a post-prom gathering near St. Sabina Church. The Sun-Times quoted Rev. Michael Pfleger, who offered a $10,000 reward, stating, “To me, this is real personal… when you shoot kids you have to go away.” Similarly, CBS Chicago reported a shooting in the South Loop where an 18-year-old woman was killed and a 38-year-old man wounded, with a witness describing gunfire from a passing vehicle. Earlier this year, on January 24, ABC7 Chicago covered a fatal shooting in Austin that led to a crash into a Ross store, linked to two crime scenes with no immediate motive identified.

The Chicago Tribune also reported an incident in Woodlawn where two gunmen entered a business, killing one and injuring two, though not a classic drive-by. These incidents underscore a pattern of random and targeted violence, often involving vehicles, with the city recording multiple casualties weekly, as tracked by independent sources like HeyJackass.

Authorities continue to investigate the latest shooting, urging residents to remain vigilant as Chicago grapples with this persistent public safety crisis.
