New Delhi, October 10: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is conducting a testing for new emergency alert system being implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). So many of us could hear a loud sound notification coming on our mobile phones.

A sample testing message from the Department of Telecommunication is being sent through the Cell Broadcasting System, which is a new emergency alert system being implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority. It aims to enhance public safety and provide timely alerts during emergencies.

This is the sixth time since August that users have received the “Emergency Alert – Severe” message. Each message serves as a crucial step in refining the Emergency Alert System’s effectiveness. DoT has said that receivers should ignore this message as no action is required from their end. This message is being sent to test Pan- India Emergency Alert System being implemented by National Disaster Management Authority.

The DoT explained that the message was part of a test to check the efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency warning broadcast capabilities of mobile operators and cell broadcast systems. The test was conducted between 12PM and 1PM today and it was not the first one. The DoT has been sending out similar messages in different regions over the past few months.

The emergency alert system is designed to inform the public about potential threats such as tsunamis, flash floods and earthquakes in a timely manner. DoT officials said this system ensures the rapid dissemination of critical emergency information to as many people as possible. It serves as a tool for government agencies and emergency services to communicate with the public during disasters.

However, once these tests are successfully done, such a message in the future would be critical and mobile users would have to follow the instructions and guidelines accordingly. The testing of India’s Emergency Alert System is also crucial for enhancing public safety and ensuring timely communication during emergencies.

On Tuesday morning, many mobile users in India received an emergency alert from the government. The alert was sent around 11:35 with a flash message and an emergency tone across Android and iPhone devices. However, there is no need to be alarmed. The alert was part of a test of the country’s new emergency alert system, which is being deployed by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The notification, said “Emergency alert: Extreme,” was designed to capture immediate attention. Android and iOS users experienced a loud buzzer-like sound accompanying the message.

The text message sent by the Department of Telecommunication stated, “This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE sent through Cell Broadcasting System by Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Please ignore this message as no action is required from your end. This message has been sent to test Pan-India Emergency Alert System being implemented by National Disaster Management Authority. It aims to enhance public safety and provide timely alerts during emergencies.”
