NEW DELHI, September 15, 2025 — For anyone who’s felt the rush and chaos of Delhi’s main airport, a big change is on the horizon. The revamped Terminal 2 is set to open on October 26, 2025, just as the winter travel season kicks off, and locals are hopeful it’ll make flying a lot less stressful.

After being closed since April for a major overhaul, the terminal promises a fresh, modern experience for the thousands who pass through daily.

The upgrade, managed by GMR AERO-led Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), aims to keep up with the city’s booming air traffic. Travelers are buzzing about features like the self-service baggage drop, which lets you scan, tag, and check your bags in minutes—no long queues.

New boarding bridges with autonomous docking tech, a first in India, should make getting on and off planes faster and safer, especially for those needing wheelchair access.

The terminal’s new look also has people talking. With skylights, modern ceilings, and better ventilation, it’s designed to feel open and welcoming. Improved road access and clearer signs, especially for those with mobility challenges, are set to ease navigation.

“It’s going to be a game-changer if it’s as smooth as they say,” said Sumit Roy, a frequent flyer who’s tired of the airport’s usual hustle.

Speaking about the development, CEO-DIAL, Mr. Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, said, “Terminal 2 is not just a facility upgrade—it’s a complete reimagination of the passenger journey. With innovative technologies like the Self Baggage Drop and autonomous docking aerobridges, we are empowering travelers, optimizing efficiency, and preparing IGI Airport for the future of aviation.

As India’s busiest aviation hub accelerates toward its next phase, these world-class enhancements underline DIAL’s vision to deliver an unmatched passenger experience while supporting the country’s growing air travel aspirations.”

Starting October 25–26, 120 daily flights, including Air India and IndiGo, will shift to Terminal 2, aiming to spread out the crowds and streamline operations. From high-resolution flight info screens to upgraded fire safety and power systems, the focus is on comfort and reliability.

As the opening nears, Delhi’s travellers are ready for a terminal that matches the city’s fast-paced energy—and makes their journeys a little easier.
