NDA CMs to Attend Ram Lila Ground Delhi CM Oath Ceremony

By Manish Anand

New Delhi, February 18: Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is widely speculating reasons for deferring the scheduled legislature party meeting. The BJP has sent invitations to all the Chief Ministers of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-ruled states.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given time for 4.30 PM on February 20 to attend the oath ceremony of the new Delhi Chief Minister. Modi also had given his time to attend the oath ceremony on February 18, sources said.

It will be 12 days since the Delhi verdict of February 8 if the new Chief Minister takes oath on Thursday. The BJP leaders are raising eyebrows at new records of delays in forming governments even after winning elections with thumping majority.

“Possibly, there is a rethink on the name of the new Delhi Chief Minister. This is the only plausible reason for deferring the scheduled oath taking ceremony at the Ram Lila Ground in the national capital,” said a senior BJP functionary.

Will Modi Remember Old Friend in Deciding Delhi CM?

Hectic parleys had been underway in the BJP ahead of the Delhi CM oath-taking ceremony. “The name of the CM candidate had been discussed among key party leaders before scheduling the oath-taking ceremony. But possibly the top leaders may have thought for more consultations and also probe scope for any new name,” added the BJP functionary.

Sources in the Delhi unit of the BJP said that the city party chief Virendra Sachdeva has held a number of meetings with senior party leaders such as national general secretary Vinod Tawde, general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh, and others.

“It is futile to speculate on name of the new Delhi CM at this juncture. The last-minute change in decision by the top leadership is weighing on the minds of the party leaders,” said another senior BJP functionary.

The media has thrown the possibilities of at least a dozen BJP MLAs with chances of becoming the next Chief Minister of Delhi. Political pundits have lensed newly elected BJP MLAs from angles such as Punjabi, Jat, Purvanchali, women, Dalit, and others.

“There was a delay in oath-taking ceremony in Haryana and Maharashtra also even while the incumbent governments won the polls. The leadership has now made it clear that the party will be in no hurry in deciding the CM after poll victory,” said the BJP functionary.

The CM hopefuls are on tenterhooks ahead of the legislature party meeting tomorrow. They are also lending ears to all the possibilities while listening to tales of ways the top brass decided CMs after recent wins in states.
