AAP Challenges May Multiply in Coming Months After Delhi Loss

New Delhi, February 10: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is bracing up for challenges. The AAP foresees immediate challenges in Punjab. Delhi defeat is ringing alarms in AAP camps.
Loss of AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has shocked rank and files of the party. The Punjab unit of AAP has become nervous.
The Congress has begun preparing for mid-term Assembly elections in Punjab. The Congress has asked party workers for preparations.
Before the Delhi elections, the AAP lost the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Mayor poll. But the results of Delhi raised serious questions on future of the AAP.
“The defeat in Delhi can shake the foundation of the AAP. The Kejriwal-led party was trying to strengthen base in other states by promoting the Delhi model,” said a senior AAP functionary.
The Delhi model powered the AAP to power in Punjab. Also, the AAP in quick time gained the status of a national party.
Arvind Kejriwal was the biggest brand of the Delhi model. Delhi defeat dimmed the shine of the Delhi model. Delhi defeat also took the shine out of Brand Kejriwal.
Tactical Congress Keeps AAP & BJP Guessing in Delhi Elections
Political analysts claim that the defeat can have a long-term impact on the party. After the Delhi elections, there may be a crisis in Punjab.
“It has been seen that when the top leadership gets weak, regional discontent creeps in. Defeat in Delhi is sure to have a direct impact on the Punjab government,” added an AAP functionary.
The AAP leaders are wary of the prospects of many MLAs of Punjab joining another party. Kejriwal may also have to face the challenge of saving the government in Punjab.
In view of this challenge, Kejriwal called a meeting of all the MLAs and ministers of Punjab on Tuesday. The AAP national convenor has asked the Punjab MLAs to stay on guard against poaching.

“Reading the writing on the wall, a number of the AAP MLAs may welcome invites from the Congress. The BJP may also entice the AAP MLAs in Punjab,” added the AAP functionary.
Punjab Assembly elections will be held in 2027. The AAP had swept the 2022 Assembly elections with thumping majority.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) may also seek to poach the AAP MLAs in Punjab, warned another party leader. Political analysts argued that anti-incumbency in Punjab is already building against the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government.
