BJP to Bless AAP Turncoats with Tickets for Delhi Elections

New Delhi, December 26: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will shortly be convening the meeting of the central election committee (CEC) to finalise the candidates for the Assembly elections. Delhi unit chief of the BJP Virendra Sachdeva is learnt to be among the leading contenders for the party tickets for the Assembly elections.
Highly-placed sources said that Sachdeva is likely to be fielded from the Patparganj Assembly seat. Sachdeva also stays in the Mayur Vihar area which comes under the Patparganj Assembly constituency.
Ex-MPs have also thrown their hats in the ring. “A number of ex-MPs and ex-MLAs may be asked to contest the Assembly elections. The strategy is to field the strong candidates,” said a highly-placed source in the BJP.
Sachdeva has never contested any kind of elections. But the BJP leaders said that Sachdeva is enjoying the support of the party leadership. Being a host of several of the BJP national executive meetings, Sachdeva has become familiar with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah.
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is the incumbent MLA from the Patparganj Assembly seat. Sisodia has shifted away to a new constituency. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded Avadh Oja from the Patparganj Assembly seat. Ojha is a history teacher at his own IAS coaching institute.
The Patparganj Assembly constituency has sizable electoral vote base of the people hailing from Uttarakhand. Besides, purvanchalis from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh also constitute a large chunk of voters in the Patparganj Assembly seat. Sachdeva is Punjabi by background.

“After becoming president of the Delhi unit of the BJP, Sachdeva has worked hard to rally the party workers. He has also worked very hard during the Covid-19 outbreak among the purvanchalis. He has a strong track record on the constituency,” said a senior BJP functionary.
Sources in the BJP said that the party will also be sparing at least two to four Assembly seats for the Janata Dal (United). The BJP is hoping that the JD (U) will persuade the purvanchali voters to shift their allegiance from the AAP to the saffron outfit.
Pravesh Verma, Meenakshi Lekhi, Ramesh Bidhuri, and others among the ex-MPs are in the race to contest the Assembly elections, Also, the BJP is hoping to field a large number of turncoats from the AAP in the polls.
