Delhi Assembly Poll Cruise in Offing with BJP in Bind
BJP wary of Rahul Gandhi Anger in Delhi Assembly Elections

New Delhi, December 24: The Election Commission is likely to announce the poll date for the Delhi Assembly election on January 3 or 4. Delhi Assembly Elections will most likely to held on February 5. The EC will not give window of more than a month of electioneering, highly placed sources said.
“The EC will most likely announce the poll date for Delhi on January 3. The EC will factor in the examination dates for CBSE Board papers. The schedule will be such that a few days before the onset of the examinations the poll process will be wrapped up,” said a highly placed source in the election body.
But the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is caught in a bind ahead of the poll date unveiling. “The Winter session of parliament has cast a shadow over the Delhi elections. The remarks of Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah on B R Ambedkar and the subsequent slugfest with the Congress will be a key factor in the Delhi elections,” said a senior BJP functionary.
The Delhi unit of the BJP leaders are growing alarmed over the cues they have picked up from the Congress on the polls in the national capital. “It appears that leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi is more furious against the BJP after the parliament session. To settle score with the BJP, Gandhi may ask the Congress to go low in the Delhi elections to help the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) win in a big way in the city,” said another senior BJP functionary.
The BJP’s hopes for a triangular contest appears to be fading. “The Ambedkar row involving the statement of Shah has further given a new turn in the Delhi politics. The Congress already is in shambles in Delhi. If the Congress doesn’t fight the polls strongly, the AAP will prevail over the BJP due to the benefits of the direct contest,” said the BJP functionary.
The BJP is taking a hard look at the 2020 Assembly elections. “The Congress polled as low as 600 votes in an Assembly seat. That was an abject surrender of the Congress. If the main Opposition party ignores the Delhi elections, then the outcome may not be different than the 2020 polls,” said the BJP functionary.
The BJP leader cited the example of the Kirari Assembly seat North Delhi where the BJP lost the elections despite polling 49.3 per cent votes. “The AAP won 49.6 per cent votes while the Congress polled just 600 votes,” added the BJP functionary.
