New Delhi, November 1: Delhi lieutenant governor Vinai Kumar Saxena was at his satirical best as he posted that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was missed who may have been busy with other engagements as the Raj Bhavan celebrated Dilli Diwas on Wednesday.

Later in the day, the Rajya Sabha MP of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Raghav Chaddha claimed that the BJP has hit upon a new “formula to escape defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by slapping cases against political rivals through the Enforcement Directorate”. “In the last few years, 125 ED cases have been slapped against big leaders from the non-BJP camp. Out of the 125 cases filed, 118 were against the rivals of the BJP. The sources have said that the BJP’s formula is to jail top leaders of the constituents of the Indian National Developmental and Inclusive Alliance (INDIA),” said Chadha.

The AAP leader claimed that the Kejriwal is being arrested as part of the conspiracy to ensure that the party in Delhi is not in a position to contest the Lok Sabha elections. “This will ensure that the AAP will not be able to contest the seven Lok Sabha seats. The next arrest will take place in Jharkhand of Hemant Soren (chief Minister),” added Chadha, who further stated that the next target will be the top leadership of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of Tejashwi Yadav.

While the AAP is seeking to portray the questioning of Kejriwal as part of a conspiracy against the Opposition block, the ruling party in Delhi is growing worried at the prospects of the unfolding of the alleged liquor scam after the Supreme Court endorsed that a transaction of Rs 338 crores indeed took place. The arrest of the Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh is emerging as key challenge for the AAP, as the party is now facing the risk of being dragged in the alleged liquor scam.

While Kejriwal is not in the habit of signing files and he rarely holds even Cabinet meetings in the city, the investigative agency may find tough to pin him down in the money trail in the prevention of the money laundering act (PMLA) under which availing a bail is a daunting task as the onus to prove innocence falls on the accused. Also, if Kejriwal is arrested and if he wins a bail because of a lack of evidence to link him in the case, he may come out strongly on the poll trail.
