Congress manifesto ticks several boxes in warm up to Lok Sabha elections
Congress promises law to recognise union of transgenders, end of contractual jobs in govt

New Delhi, April 5: The Congress on Friday released the party’s manifesto. The Congress ‘Nyaya Patra’ has ticked several boxes to get the poll ready for the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress has promised to reverse the “governance model of the last 10 years”.
The Congress accords top priority to the social justice poll plank in the manifesto. The Congress promised to commission a Socio-Economic and Caste Census. The last such census was held under the Congress-led government of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
The Congress also promises to revisit the 50 per cent ceiling in reservation. The main Opposition party also promised to introduce reservation in the private educational institutions.
The Congress has also promised to look into recommendations of several reports to improve conditions of students from the reserved categories in the educational institutions. The Congress has also promised to open the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota of 10 per cent for all castes.

The Congress has also promised to end the contractual system in government employment. The Opposition party also promised to fill all vacancies in the sanctioned posts in the government.
The Congress also promised to overturn the “governance model of the last 10 years”. The Opposition party is promising to trash the Prevention of the Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Several of the leaders of the Opposition parties are currently facing charges under the PMLA.
Getting bails under the PMLA has been found to be a challenge. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh happens to be among a tiny lot of the PMLA accused who could come out of a jail in six month after getting bail from the Supreme Court.
The Congress has also promised to work to promote inclusiveness in the society. The party manifesto promises a law to recognize the unions of the transgenders. The Opposition party also promises to address the issue of communal polarization in the society through interventions.
The Congress has also promised an amendment to the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The party has said that education upto class XII in public schools will be compulsory and free. The RTE was also first brought by the Congress-led UPA government.

The Congress has also promised to end the practice of the schools to charge fees in several categories. The Congress has also promised to amend the National Education Policy (NEP). The Opposition party has said that the NEP will be amended in consultation with the states. Education is in the concurrent list of the Constitution.
